I got my first Hovabator today from LLL Reptiles and am setting it up tonight. I have read that alot of people say not to use the wafer and others say too. SO im confused and wanna know what you use. Or if you even use the Hovabator. If you dont use the wafer, what do you use? And how do you connect it? Thanks.

I tried using hovas years ago... Honestly I would never use one again... My hatch rates were low... I build my own incubators these days... I use wine or mini refridgerators, heat tape and a thermostat...

I would add a proper thermostat to your hova before putting eggs in it...

This is my fourth season using them and I am yet to have a problem... They're controlled with Helix DBS-1000 thermostats... So in my experience, they are just fine as long as you're using a quality thermostat...

For your hobovator:
--get a proportional thermostat (the search function or google will tell you what that is); I got mine from Big Apple Herp for about $100 which was the best price I could find 4 years ago

--when you get it, turn the control on the wafer all the way up. Put the probe of the proportional thermostat in the hobovator through one of the holes on top. You should also have a digital thermometer with probe. Put that probe in there too, near the thermostat probe (so you can accurately check temps).

--plug the hobovator into the proportional thermostat. Plug the thermostat into your outlet. Now your proportional thermostat is controlling the hobovator temps rather than the wafer.

I have used hovas for 10 years and had phenomenal hatch rates. last year I had 90 eggs out of which 87 hatched with no problems or deformities.
