This question is directed to all who use the hovabator 1602-N model incubator.

Do you notice temp change as more containers are put in? Our hovabator seems to keep fluctuating in temps as I add more containers. I currently have about 9 containers with eggs inside. It was staying in the 82-84 range now it's in the 80-82 range. Just curious if it has anything to do with the number of containers inside? Taking temps with a digital thermo with lead. Bottom of incubator full of water.

Yes I have seen this, and always thought it was normal since I was adding a new (unheated) container. I always increase the temp 2 degrees or so when adding a new container. Ditto with removing containers, decrease the temp a bit ;)

At the beginning of the season I put all the containers I'll need in the hobovator with the proper perlite/water ratio (I never have more than 4,though). I use them as I need and squirt a bit of water into the ones I use later. I've never noticed any difference in the temp that way.

Ditto what Aliza said. I prepare containers about three days before the eggs are laid that way they have time to stabilize in temp. I have not noticed really any major fluctuation in the temp. but I do have them in a room that stays at the temp that my female incubator is set at so I think that that has something to do with it.

I like Aliza's idea, although I've never tried it.

I've normally never had any problems with stablizing my temps from start to finish (empty to packed). My female incubator tends to stay around 80-82. My crested gecko incubator around 77-80. I've just set up a male incubator.

I'd watch with upping the temperautre 2 degrees every time you add a cup; it may get too hot.

That is just normally what I need to do. This is my first year incubating eggs (plus I work/go to school from home so i'm literally almost always home) and I constantly look at the incubator and adjust it if it's not exactly at 30 degrees celcius ;) When I put in a new container, I just move the crank about one half of a turn increase (or so), which evens the temp. out, and I've always had to do this.. I've never really considered this as a problem stabilizing the temps, though; I just figured it was because i'm a noob and I have an anal personality!

Although, I agree and think Aliza's idea is much better ;)

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah I like Aliza's idea too. I think maybe we'll start doing that once we have some hatches and set-up another incubator. I did decide to actually check the temp inside one of the containers and it reads 84.5-85.5.
