How are some people shipping so cheap?

I don't where you saw shipping that cheap, but send me the link. (lol) The cheapest shipping that we have seen (and what we pay) is $50 on all orders up to like $600, at which point it's like $75 I think. I'm not sure. (lol) I've seen on sight that does free shipping on all orders over $300. That's it though. They may be only listing $30+ as the shipping to make you feel like you're getting an awesome deal when in reality you're getting charged a little more for your order to cover the shipping they appear to be chipping off. .... idk.....

USPS overnight maybe?

That would be my guess, USPS Express is usually 1/3-1/2 the price of FedEx or UPS overnight. I do the vast majority of my shipping through them, but always use their service commitment tool to verify that they guarantee overnight service to your destination. Some areas are only guaranteed 2 day service and will require FedEx/UPS.

Some businesses that ship frequently have contracts with overnight services for a flat rate. Some sellers may also be willing to absorb a portion of shipping cost.

i personally am willing to pay the extra cost to ensure delivery by 10:30 am. our USPS carriers here aren't predictable on their delivery times and I just don't trust them. you have to remember it's about the animals safety, not how much you can save. on the flip side, when i ship i refuse to use USPS as well.

I've had better results overall with USPS over the others. Never had a box lost on a mail truck on a summer day in Fort Worth... ;)

Shipping through UPS and FedEx, even with SYR or Reptile Express, usually means I take a $10-20 hit. I have not had very good experiences with USPS even when they did guarantee overnight delivery, and their tracking system is very inadequate.

There are definitely regional issues with all the carriers. Where I'm at FedEx is a disaster, UPS is pretty good, and USPS is stellar. Look hard enough and you will find issues with every service, which is why packing is so important. Pack your animals correctly and they can survive just about anything, especially leopard geckos. You pretty much have to step on one to kill it.

I was just having this same conversation with someone the other day. It seems to me that most of the ones I've seen are established breeders and I assume they are eating the increased cost.

I'm not really into leopard geckos any more, mostly rhacs and Uros, and the ads I'm talking about are for stuff like leachies and the suchlike. If I can't eat another $10-15 on a $600 single gecko, then something is wrong.

BUT I do have one hatchling leopard left over from my leo days, and you can bet the farm I'm charging actual shipping costs on it when I sell it. $10-15 on a $60 sale is too big a percentage.

That's my two cents worth for what it's worth. Which is about two cents.

Your not the only one who figured this out recently. The person I just got off the phone said that for some reason my discount didn't get subtracted off when I payed in store. I use FedEx. You might want to call your carrier and see if that is the same issue your had. They are suppose to reimburse me the difference from that shipment and any other that goes out before the adjustment. I had a $16 dollar difference from the quote to the actual shipping cost. I figured there'd be a difference but not that much. Hopefully I will get reimbursed all of that but i'll take a majority.

Stores that are a drop off point for shipping services may be charging a fee on top of actual carrier rates. We use FedEx and pay a $5 pick up charge in addition to the shipping rate. If we have more than one package going out, it's a one time charge. If we have a delivery and pick up on the same day, it's still the extra fee. They deliver in the morning and pick up late afternoon for overnight deliveries. If you speak with them directly, you can find out your best options for your area.

I am VERY happy with my geckos. Thank you again for all your help! Yeah I showed him the writing on it and told him there were live animals in there. He was in a rush with the weather being so bad but thats no excuse. Luckily they were all fine and they are all settling in nicely and eating! I will keep you updated on them.
