We live in Oklahoma. We have all kind of weather patterns. Torando, hail, lighting, and ice storm. This torando season will be our first with our geckos. I need to know:
What I need to transport them in?
How to keep them warm without power?
What about food and water?
If I run and hide in the cellar, what do and need to keep them alive?

We are an animal loving family. So if bad weather comes we will have 3 children, 2 dogs, and 5 geckos with us!!:D

I want to be ready when weather comes. Thunderstorms come in a hurry! I dont want to leave behind any of my animals!:(

Unless there's a danger that the house is going to be destroyed, you're probably OK leaving the geckos where they are. If there's a danger of physical destruction, I would recommend having tanks set up in the basement, so if you have to do down there, you can scoop up the geckos and install them in their downstairs tanks (I have tanks set up downstairs for my crestie and gargs for when the temps in my living room get too hot in the summer). Either get a bunch of snake bags, or those small faunariums or some deli cups (I think snake bags would be fastest) so you can quickly scoop your geckos into individual transport devices and move them. If you have to evacuate the house to a shelter, it's a little trickier because I imagine you're limited in what you can bring.
Geckos can do fine for days with lower than usual temperatures. I would imagine that the temps in OK during tornado season are more than adequate for them, so don't worry so much about electricity unless you're powering an incubator.

How can I keep the geckos warm with a power outage from a ice/snow storm? I have not see any battery operated heat lamps in Petsmart. The vet said to use HotHands for warmth. Has anyone had expericene with the warmers?

We do not have a basement. I would take the geckos to a neigbors shelter. We could have high wind come thur and a tree fall on our house. There are several reasons why I would need to leave the house with my geckos. Can I carry 2 hacthlings, 3 adults in one carrier??

There are devices (you can check out devices meant for computers) that will maintain power via battery for a few hours if there is no electricity. You plug your heater into the device and then plug that into an outlet. I have my incubator set up that way.

For leaving the house, get the large "faunarium" (e.g. http://www.bigappleherp.com/Exo-Terra-Faunarium-All-Purpose-Terrariums). This model has a divider. Put the adults on one side and the hatchlings on the other side (unless more than 1 of your adults is male). They will be fine for a short time in whatever heat you will be fine in.

Aliza, Thank you for the info. I will see about getting a "faunarium" to put all the leos in. I will do what the vet said about the Hothands warmers when the power goes out. If a tornado comes we have about 20 mins before the storm comes. It will be the easiest for our Leo family!

Good luck. I hope you have as good a weather year as we have here in the Northeast with decent tempertures and hardly any snow.

Tape a little tinfoil(shiny side up) to the bottom of the container, leave one side open so its a pouch, then you can throw some hand warmers into it and tape up the edge, should keep them from getting too cold.
