I'm a Combat Medic in the US Army, a good chunk of the money I spent to get back into geckos was money from deployments. Now that my time in the military is coming to a end I can slowly build up more and more. Majority of the money I make selling geckos goes right back into them to improve on projects and start new ones. I also raise most of the feeders I use (mealworms, silk worms, dubias, supers) But I'll be going back to school soon enough and with the new GI Bill will be able to focus on school and the Geckos, so I'm excited to see what I can do in the next few years. I also do trades with people for new geckos since I feel its a lot easier for 2 people to trade instead of each side spending money. Everyone leaves happy and with something they want.

I *think* it's about to the self supporting stage between breeding feeders, selling off a few, animal sales, and reptile jewelry sales. Tho, if I sat down with pencil and paper, calculated everything, it's probably costing me more than I realize :) Keeps me out of trouble tho :)

I've done everything from German Shepherd Schutzhund training to metal stud framing. I am currently training to fight fire with the US Forest Service.
hobbies (paid and not) include: playing bass in a zombie-punk band (The Walking Dead), providing sound/lighting/lasers for events, spinning fire, backpacking, hiking, camping, rock climbing, snowboarding, etc. :)

GO DAWGS!!!! I spent three months in Athens with my uncle, loved it! I was supposed to play football for UGA but I busted up my knee in a 4wheeler accident.

Man that would have been awesome to play UGA football, we have a great program. I have lived in Athens and attended UGA for 3 years now. I love the nightlife here, not to mention the music scene. When were you staying here?

I have a full time job as a graphic designer at a local print shop. However, I try to use my monthly subcontracting work (my 'me' $) money towards the geckos. For the larger expenses (rack or more geckos) I will usually wait until it's my birthday or Christmas. I save $ by buying mealworms (and a few supers) in bulk for the fridge as well as having a colony on the side. I avoid crickets because they're a burden on the wallet.

I'm a self-employed remodeling contractor/finish carpenter, and sometimes I will get paid cash for a small job, or when I end up with scrap metal, I cash it in for dough. I always try to keep a little "cash reserve fund" for miscellaneous whatevers, and herps tend to end up in that category.

I've heard several people say it so far, and I wanna echo it BIGTIME... raising your own feeders is a huge savings.

Back in 2009 when I made my initial investments I worked at a Reptile Wholesale Warehouse to support the growing collection. Right now everything pretty much pays for itself. I also breed and sell some feeders.

I know of strictly reptiles down there. My sister bought her jack sons chameleon from there. And I used to go when I was younger to look at everything. Is there another one?

Thats what I started doing. I buy carmel flavoring $1.00 a bottle and the instant coffee. i save quite a bit that I can spend on my reptiles and gliders, lol. I also raise my own feeders and yes it is quite a savings. I also sell mealies to our local petshop and that helps me buy some feeders that I dont raise. She also gives me discounts......we are prob her best costomers with our little zoo, lol
