Christina i only bred one...and that was definitly enough for a first timer. i can't even imagine breeding more the first time around. It was already a little overwhelming with the one! This next season Im going to be breeding 2 females.

I dont think the number of breeders is as important as the number of eggs. You can breed 1 female and get 30 eggs or breed 6 females and get 4 eggs. It all boils down to how many hatchlings you get and how ready (housing, feeders, supplies, time, etc.) you are for them.

That is true. Especially with first time breeders who may not lay as many eggs as a proven breeder might. So if you had more first time breeding females would you breed more females than normal to get the number of fertile eggs/hatchlings wanted?

No. There is not way to have a accurate figure based on proven or not. I had a first year breeder lay 32 fertile eggs and the same year a 2 season proven female lay 3 fertile eggs (with a previous year of 22 fertile eggs). Its just a luck of the draw and not always linked to being proven or not.

Anything may or may not happen. Some may lay single egg clutches. Some may lay a whole year of infertiles. Some may lay an average number of 2 egg clutches, only half of them, or less, being any good. Some may lay 10 clutches, 90% of which are good eggs. There really isn't any way to predict with accuracy, but only to prepare for whatever may happen.

True. I plan on breeding only as much as I can handle. I have specific breeding projects which has helped me curtail the number to a manageable number. I was just wondering what others have started at.

I have 4 females. Bred 3 of them. One seems to be infertile, one has given 4 clutches with 3 fertile eggs and the final one has given one clutch after a late season mating with hopefully more to come.
