Well 1 male for sure on that. I have an enclosure about that size and I have 2 females in there. Not sure the max would be I could put 3 maybe 4 in there and I feel they would be comfortable. I would just run into the problem of making sure they all had everything the needed.

I know a person who bred them in 10 gallon tanks, 1 male and 2 females per tank all of the time. I wouldn't recommend this, but I suppose it can be done.

Your cage is just slightly larder than a 20 long it sounds like. You COULD keep a MAX of a male and 4 females in there if you had enough hides.

I, however, would not recommend that because it would be hard to keep track of who was eating and to keep an eye on everyone. Some of the leos might also "hog" the warmer hides leaving the others in the cold.

It's really hard to say...

People say leos are happier living alone, but when I have housed multiples in the same enclosure, they have always slept cuddled up together. This leads me to believe that they might not mind (and may even enjoy) being social and having the security of another leo to sleep with.

My maximum for my 20 gallon long (30"x12"X12") is 4 geckos --1 male and 3 females, but I have a second level which is 12x12 to give them more "floor" space.

We did a little test where we kept 4 females in a tank about that size (45G or 50G maybe?). They did alright but their colors dulled and they didn't eat as well as when they were housed individually.

I only have two females together in a 29 gallon long tank which has similar dimensions but considering breeders keep them in sweater boxes Im sure you can fit 3-4 in there comfortably.

You could fit a max of 3-4 in there, but I wouldn't. Even when leo's have large amounts of space and hides sometimes a few will hog the hides and heat and food and water sources, causing the others to loose weight, color and become stressed. I had 3 females together and 1 was getting this kind of treatment(they were in a 40g breeder tank). Now I keep 2 females in a 40g breeder, a male and a very healthy female(with another alternating female companion) in a 30g, 2 females in a 20g long and 1 female in a 10g(This ones an AFT).

Thank you for mentioning this, because I completely agree. If they're so happy being solitairy, then why do they always pal around and sleep with eachother!! They even seem to get upset when they get separated..

we have 1 male and 2 females in two different 20 gallon long tanks (slightly smaller than yours) and they all get along and seem pretty happy.. Not all geckos are the same, though, no matter what you do you will have to monitor them for bullying

Whats Too Many??

This question of course, can only be answered by the
gecko owner.....
The geckos as owners are, all different. But you might want to ask yourself, when considering more than one in each gecko home.
Have I ever seen a gecko bite off its own tail? Do I worry as much about one not eating, if there is no competition for the food? and of course when we still put some together (as most do,me included.) and see a sign of a bully or gecko pig, will we DELAY making that needed decision to separate them?....Was there a choice or did we just have more geckos than we planned or had space for?
Take care. HJ

Ok, they usually sleep in a hide over the warm spot. That's why they all sleep together, usually there's only one hide on the warm spot. When we did this experiment with the females, the tank was big enough to put 4 hides on over the UTH. They each slept in a different hide.
