How to convince on roaches?

Hey guys my mom won't let me have roaches i think I'm a bit afraid to ask her...What do you guys think I should say when I tell her I want to buy them? P.S I'm trying to not get some whopins too.

hahaha... IMO, you should just get them... once they're in your possession, you can't un buy them...


sometimes, you just have to do it before you ask... LOL...

I'd say you have 2 choices (and I don't think the suggestion above about just getting them is a good one):

1. educate her by giving her lots of information
2. get older and move out on your own

They ARE low ground beetles.....
I understand if you want to tell they're roaches but they die after ten minutes at room temp.

Also could I keep there tub in my rack that has heat tape at like about 84 i bealive.

btw... once they're in the tote or whatever, they're pretty much out of sight... so she'll get over it pretty quick...

i have my dubias and hissers in red 18gallon sterilite containers from walmart... they were 4 bucks each... pretty good IMO... they have some smaller ones like, 16G that were black but smooth plastic... those would've been better, but i like my containers better... the are dark, but the light that goes in is red... i figured it makes them more confortable...

I am going to pick up 100 dubia from a reptile store tomorrow and I have a 55 qt. set up. 4 egg crates, plate of water crystals, fruits and veggies, and crushed up dog food mixed with flake fish food. IMO and what I have heard, you should get a tub which light can not penetrate because Dubias like it dark and warm. I have a 11" foot of heat tape underneath, and until they start producing and the colony is running smoothly, I am feeding Super Worms. Just wanted to explain my set up and plan to help you out.

If your mother is anywhere near as terrified as I am of those large, ugly, scary insects, there's just no way she's ever going to be okay with the idea of having cockroaches in her house. They could be locked away in a stainless steel airtight container with 9 different locks, it doesn't matter. They're in the house.

If mom says no and dad says yes, then I would get an agreed on answer before you go ahead and buy them. If you go behind their backs, and jump the gun, you may very well get that whoopin' you were talking about.

The tub is temp until I go to home depot and get a tub.

i'm supposed to get another 350 mixed size dubias from my local breeder/friend today or maybe tomorrow... my adults aren't breeding for some reason... i've been feeding them and everything, but i think the humidity isn't right... or heat...

how hot do you have the heat tape at taquiq...??? i'm using a personal heat blanket for heat until i head to LLL and get some heat tape... i think the heater thing isn't hot enough... fail...
