Alright, I'm just going to start off saying this so, I don't get chewed out by people. I am only asking these question just because I want to learn more, I am not saying I am going to be breeding anytime soon, but I AM CURIOUS about how this works. So please don't be rude.

But my question is,
How does someone start breeding?, Obviously you need a male and a female and the both have to be the right size and weight. But how do you start?

1).How do you begin the breeding process .. asides from the breeding season and the female has to be ovulating.
If the male is in a different enclosure do I put him in the females tank? or the females in his?

2.If i just wanted to breed once .. and have one clutch hatch is that possible? I know that females can store sperm ..but if she lays can I just throw them out? ..and just incubate a few?

but please note I will not be breeding for a few years, and I might not even breed at all, but I really want to know how it works.

1) I find it's easier to put the male in with the female. Her scent is all over the place and he gets the drift right away if she's ovulating. Watch some youtube vids of the mating process though. Sometimes it just looks really violent and scares the bejeezus out of the owners, and sometimes it IS violent and you need to step in and separate them. This typically only happens when the female isn't receptive, but you need to recognize what's normal and what isn't so you can be prepared to intervene.

2) You could, theoretically, do that. BUT please freeze the eggs you aren't incubating before you throw them out. This kills any developing cells so that you don't accidentally have eggs hatching at the dump and tiny helpless baby geckos freezing/starving to death outside their natural climate. Nearly always, these eggs will need an incubator to hatch, but it is possible for them to hatch without one. There is no reason to put a potential animal's life at risk that way, so again, PLEASE freeze the eggs you aren't incubating.

If you google "leopard gecko breeding" you will find a lot of basic information and then we can answer more specific questions here.

Cycling is lowering the temperatures over the winter and raising them in the spring to make them want to breed, but it's not necessary because leopard geckos will know when to breed. :main_thumbsup:

Thats actually cooling, i believe cycling is when you have a group of geckos that you cool at a different time of year so their breeding seaosn is at a different time to the natural season, therefore, you have some leo's breeding during natural breeding season and some leo's breeding out of breeding season because they are cooled to think that it IS breeding season. Therefore getting eggs all year round. This is cycling.

Tell me if i have it the wrong way round... haha.
