Hey everybody I'm new and this is my first post/question. I have a female and ever since I put a humid hide in her tank a few days ago she has been in there ALOT! It is just a sterilite container with moist paper towels in there. Is this weird? It's on the warm side and she loves to sleep in there.

I have multiple geckos that love to stay in the humid hide. Most of mine will hang out in the humid hide 3-5 days prior to shedding and or laying eggs and then go back to there normal habits, but a few of mine seem to live in the humid hide.

I agree with James, our fattail prefers the humid hide, one of my leopards used to crap in his but has since found a suitable corner and now spends less time in it. And the other rarly goes in but did just recently before shedding... I think some like thier hummidy hides more than others and some know when to get in and moisten up! By the way welcome to the forums!

Thanks everybody for the help and the welcoming. Yeah I just wasn't sure if it was odd or not because every time I would go to look, she would be in her hide. But from what you guys have told me, it's pretty normal.

It's completely normal for it to spend a lot of time in its moist hide. It probably just prefers it to the other hides it has. On the other hand, it may have something to do with the temps in your tank. How warm is it on the warm side? The cool side? Do you have a dry hide on the warm side too?

I just got my leo yesterday and was wondering where in my tank should the moist hide be I currently have in the middle between the warm and cool sides. should I move it closer to one side or the other?

rchase the temp on the cool side is at like 75-78 and the warm side is usually at a solid 90. And yea I have a regular hide on the warm side too. Should I move the humid hide to the middle or keep it where it is?

i keep mine right on the heat, because as mentioned earlier...this may be a favorite hide for a majority of leopard geckos. humidity is the moisture content in the air, not just a wet spot...so if the hide is on the cool side, its just gonna be cold and wet(to the leo) and if it is on the heat, it will, infact, be a HUMID hide. plus most reptiles will chose security over optimal temps, so if the leopards like a tighter fitting hide with moist paper towels, and the hide is on the warm side...they always have optimal temps in the humid hide. just my opinion, others may not agree.

Ahh I should have seen this thread before posting mine. Sorry about that but yea my guy loves his moist hide too. He seems to stay in that more than the other hides. Temps are right and everything else is too. He just seems to adore it, he'll venture out when he feels like it, but mostly stays in the moist hide.

I removed the moist hide from the tank today. In 3 months my gecko has not gone near it once. At this point it's just taking up space. When he does shed he does it quickly. In a matter of minutes. Now if I see he's starting to shed I moisten a paper towel and put it on the floor of the tank.

you may not see it use the moist hide, but you can bet(especially if it sheds quickly) that if it is having that good of sheds, its probably using the humid hide...

Just pointing out the obvious, if it's on the warm side, it'll dry up fast, so keep an eye on it. Wet to dry paper towels can get rather "solid" and rough.
