I've never had people disgusted with the reptiles, though some do have a gut reaction and flinch and/or scream. I probably don't help the problem as I like to 'wear' my geckos as 'broaches'- funny thing is, a lot of people ask where I got my jewelry as it's so beautiful... and then they shriek when the gecko moves when they touch it. Muah hah hah!

You should see the looks I get when I go to the park with my animals...lol! I had my tegus there one day for pictures, and some people came up complimenting my 'iguanas'. lol! Why does everyone think every lizard is an iguana? lol!

I know! I was holding one of the Savannahs and someone looked at us and said, "Oh, I used to have one of those. Its an iguana, right?"
I about fell over laughing.
I've got the "Is it an iguana?" question about my bearded dragon, too.

You're right. Every lizard translates to iguana, don't they!:main_rolleyes:

I showed my uncle a picture of my geckos and he was like, "I had one that looked exactly like that but green" I asked, "Did it have the same pattern as the Geico gecko?" He said yes and I had to resist the urge to smack myself in the forehead. Gecko also translates to Gieco gecko.

Although a lot of people think its cool that i own reptiles, there are many who don't respect the fact that i have them. if people would just open their minds and give things a chance we wouldnt have to endure the hurt feelings from those who think reptiles are "icky" or "ugly". i just had a conversation with my roomie where she completly bad mouthed my geckos and told me over and over how dogs are better and blah blah. i like dogs and i respect the fact that she would rather have one but she cringes everytime i even have a gecko out. :( some ppl just dont get us and i guess we'll have to live with it.

Most people will think it's cool I own reptiles as well, most of the time my little sister will show pictures of my crestie to her class and comies home with a friend who wants to see him, most of the people my age and in my collage will come back saying "I have a corn snake." or a bearded dragon. But most older adults will hate him, you know scream, cringe, shudder, that kind of reaction. I was actually at a party once and got into a conversation with a lady I didn't even know and I showed her a little picture of my crestie that always carry around and she shuddered and said "I don't even know how you can love that thing."
me "I love him like a child, he's very precious to me."
her" Ugh, but it looks all slimy and scaley it has no fur like fluffy little hamsters."
Because she was holding a baby at the time I took advantage of it and said "You're baby doesn't have any fur so why do you love that."
Then we walked away from each other and never spoke again, The End ;)
