Hypermelanistic X red eyed enigma, what might that look like? Maybe like a cave gecko... black with red eyes.

;) One of my future projects is going to be an attempt to make a hyper-melanistic enigma. However, I have no ideas what the enigma trait will do to a hyper-melanistic gecko... I guess only time will tell.

Still, that certainly is a first I want to see, or hopefully produce.

I personally don't like them much. But I do believe there will be a demand for them, because they'll be something different from whats out right now. Plus I bet a lot of breeders would like to cross them with other morphs and see what they get.

BTW Paul we are on the same page about HyperMelanistic being really dark. I wish I had a female to breed Clyde with that was Hyper-Melanistic or melanistic. I don't so I did a little experment with Bonnie;)
I am hoping I get at leaste 1 melanistic from that pairing and I will be happy. If I get more even better:D

test breeding... gotcha.

Some people don't understand hypo and hyper and I just wanted to make sure. I wasn't trying to be condescending if I came across that way John

To bring up something that no one has seemed to answer yet...

Which are more desirable in your opinion, Mack snow melanistics or normal melanistics?

Personally I like different things about both of them. However, both have some things that I'm not fond of that well... Note: these are just some observations I have made from my own personal experience, and I'm sure this doesn't apply to every single hyper-melanistic/melanistic.

Mack snow mels-

Pros: Retain darker coloration longer

Cons: Retain a lot of yellow speckles that make the darker color not look as dark or as appealing

Normal mels-

Pros: In general give more of a darker coloring then Mack snow mels

Cons: Color fades out on the sides more with age- becomes a "grey" color, tail coloration also fades faster

Both groups would make interesting projects, and that's why I'm choosing to work with both.

The question is what will happen appearance-wise with offspring if a normal hyper-mel and a mack hyper-mel are bred together... That's definitely something else that I'd like to try out later on...

;) Forgive me for the rambling, but this project fascinates me, plus I'd like to hear people's opinions on mack snow melanistics and normal melanistics.

i think a pure black one as pure as the diablo blanco is white, with red eyes would be a very cool gecko and with the breeders doing what theyre doing today, i wont be surprised if we see one in the next few years.

Andrew that we be as of now impossible, because the Albino trait would take away from all the hard work of selective breeding normals, so technically the closest you could get would be a Melanistic Eclipse! :)

Agreed! A solid black gecko with red eyes would be very cool, but not very likely since the red eyes would be an albino trait... and there would be no possiblity of it having any melanin in it's skin. A black gecko with solid black eyes is very possible, though!

The only way i can think of making a solid black gecko with red eyes is breeding the Hyper melanistic to the Enigma bell, and keep selectivly breeding darker gecko together within the enigma bell line.

I am not too shabby with genetics, but am far from an expert. I plan to have fun trying whether it works or not. My goal as a "breeder" is to have fun , while trying to make beautiful geckos. That to me is what this hobby is all about. Trial and error and learning from your shortcomings is how many a morph was created:main_thumbsup:
