I booked our vacation to Holland next month and ASSumed that my passport would be fine. It has my maiden name on it but I used it with my married name on my driver's license on our honeymoon and it has my maiden name as my middle name. Keith was still worried about it so he called the passport office...I can't use my passport. :main_no:

You now have to send your original marriage license, birth certificate, and passport. Thank god I had all of them! The turnaround for an expedited passport is 3 weeks, they will receive my application today and our flight leaves June 9th.

So you guys please sprinkle me with some passport dust!!! I'll be bummed if we can't go on vacation but I'll be even more bummed that I didn't buy the airfare insurance for our non-refundable flights...arggg.

You've got 3 weeks so you should be ok! Fingers crossed for you anyway!!

Hope you have a wonderful trip!! We went to Amsterdam when my son was 1 1/2. It was an excellent trip!! We especially enjoyed the late evening wine & cheese cruise through the canals. Beautiful way to enjoy the architecture and then when it finally got dark (~11:00 in late June) lights come on on all the little bridges. We didn't even have to share our table (wine) with anyone else as everyone avoided sitting near the baby (who behaved perfectly). :D

I couldn't resist sharing this picture from that little cruise - one of my favorite family pics! Can't wait to see your pics when you get back!!!

Oh boy, I really hope your passport gets delivered in time! I will keep my fingers crossed for you (but not on both hands, because that is a jinx).

That's an awesome pic, Nancy! We did get to go to Amsterdam on our Honeymoon a few years ago but we only had a full day and a half there so we barely got to see anything. I really wanted to go to the Anne Frank House and a bunch of the museums so we planned to stay a week this time. A friend was telling us about that amazing wine and cheese cruise. I love wine and cheese but I have panic attacks on boats (yes I realize that the canals aren't that deep) so I think we'll pass. I'll just have to gorge myself on wine, cheese, and chocolate on land. lol

Thanks! It was one of those cheesy pics they take and then try to sell to you - but this one actually turned out well so we had to buy it - lol! My eyes are closed in 99.99% of all pictures that I'm in. I can't believe it has been so long since Ted was that cute little guy! He's 9 now.

Geoff had to go to meetings most every day we were there, so Ted & I spent our days going on walking tours of the city. We used a little guide by Rodney Bolt - just called Amsterdam. It has a number of walking tours that take you to some key sites as well as some out of the way things. My favorites were some of the courtyard gardens and the horse ring & stables that you'd never know were there if you didn't know where to look. One of the tours included Anne Frank's house. That was very interesting -incredibly sad, though. I think we did all six walks. Beer tasting at the Heineken brewery is always good, too! :main_yes: I also really enjoyed the Van Gogh museum, although Ted was at an age where I had to keep the stroller moving all the time. He was perfectly content as long as he was moving. So, I'd make circles around & around so I could look at the paintings. I'm sure I looked ridicuous.:main_rolleyes:

It was a great trip - I'm sure you guys will have an awesome time!

****madly sprinkling fast passport dust****

Here's to hopin' it all works out. Heck, I know it will. ;)

Nancy, that is a great picture!! How brave to take a 1 1/2 year old on that flight.............we went to Hawaii in December (my inlaws paid) and my daughter was 15 mos..........and it was a HARD 5 hour flight. I think it's that age that is tough to travel at - so big kudos to you!!! :main_yes:

I am very fortunate that both my kids are good travellers. They do have occasional moments, but they really do very well. Good thing since we have a plane ride every time we visit family!

We're going to Amsterdam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes Paul, I just experienced a loss of bladder control and now I'm going to yodel)

The guy who just processed my Passport called to thank me for the silly note I put in the paperwork about me being a moron. He thought it was hilarious and said that he was saving it for "dark days". Apparently most people aren't so friendly with the passport office...go figure. He also told me that the Passport information center didn't inform us quite correctly. I could have traveled until 2015 with my old passport as long as I had brought my marriage license. Oh well, I'm just glad it's being printed as we speak! :D

Thanks guys. Let's just hope good old USPS gets it all back to me! I wish I could remember the name of the guy who called but I'm going to keep their office's address and send them a post card from Amsterdam. I'm sure they don't get a ton of thank you cards at the Passport Office.

Marcia, they only allow you to check one bag now. So if you can figure out a way to wear all of the clothes and shoes I'll need and fit yourself into a suitcase that is less than 60 linear inches and under 50lbs, YES, you can come!! Thank god we're only going for a week, I don't know if I'd be able to pack that light if it were longer. I'm really bad about packing 8 pairs of shoes and then only wearing 2. lol
