I don't know about tiles, but the thermostat has 2 outlets in it. The thermostat plugs into the wall, then the UTH plugs into the outlets ON the thermostat. The thermostat has a dimmer sort of thing in it that maintains the temp the UTH sits at. My thermostat(Reptitemp 500R)was $40.00. All leos are the same, but just different patterns and colors. Its the atttitude of the gecko you want to look out for. As your best bet, I would go with a female, as they are supposed to be a little calmer then the males. Plus, you can get yourself another gecko if you have a female. Two females in the same tank is possible, with a male, its either M with F and expect eggs, or M with M and expect a dead gecko. Males will fight eachother to the death.

ceramic, just go to lowes and feel them with your hand and get something that feels rough instead of slick.
