This is what he was sold to me as, and I don't know what to call him (morph, I mean). His color isn't regular tremper, I think???

66% het RAPTOR, 50% poss. giant, and I quote "genetics- SHTCxSHTC" I don't think the breeder kept very good records, but what morph do I call him?
Also, what do you think about him being a giant? He has outgrown another male I got at the same time by about 14g. He's a little over 8.5 inches right now. Honestly, I don't care if he's the crappiest morph on earth, I love the little bugger, he's my favorite leo, but I would just like to know what to call him.

When I got him 10/06/09, 27g:

I would call him a hypotang tremper: "hypo" because he does have some, though reduced spotting, "tang" because he's orange, "Tremper" for obvious reasons. The possible het raptor means to me that there's a chance he will have offspring with eclipse eyes and/or striping. I don't know much about giants, but I think there has been debate previously about them as a morph. I have a male Tremper that gets up to about 115 grams but he's only about 9.5 inches long so I don't consider him a giant. As I understand it, many giants are long and lean initially before they fill out. Unless someone else has something else to offer in terms of advice I guess you just have to wait till he gets to be a few years old and measure him.

I second what Aliza has said, completely. He's a lovely morph, and I just want to interject and say that no morph is a "crappy" morph. They're all beautiful, wonderful creatures, every single one. ;)

Yes, all morphs are beautiful =] lol. I think he is a giant, at least from the photos, that is what he looks like. And I agree with the Tremper. He is really pretty! I really like his coloration =]

He's a big boy, but I'd hold off calling him a giant unless he actually exceeds 80 grams at 18 months. Even that's no guarantee, since I've seen big normals that exceed 100 grams. I've always been wishy washy about the giant morph, mainly because it's so difficult to judge. Doesn't mean I don't like them though! I've got several giants in my collection, but I only sell them as possible giants.

The 50% possible giant simply means that one of the parents was a giant. Giant (supposedly) is a codominant trait, so you only need one copy of the gene to be a giant. If you have two copies of the gene, you're a super giant. For example:

G=giant, g=normal
Mom = Gg (giant)
Dad = gg (normal)

Offspring have a 50% chance of being Gg and a 50% chance of being gg, but since it's impossible to tell if a gecko truly is a giant at a young age (regardless of the 'markers' such as a longer, lankier bodies, it's all way too subjective in my opinion to be accurate), breeders market these crosses as 50% possible giants.

Yeah, that's what I thought. The biggest thing that makes me think he might be is the growth differential between him and a raptor male I got at the same time and at the same weight. There is now a 14g difference between them. He's the cheapest gecko I own except for Mr. Bill, who was almost free. He cost $35, and my other two cost way more than that, but he's my favorite, both in looks and in personality.

Thanks for the wisdom, guys(a unisex term...)

I got my baby who hatched was 15 grams lol.
I think that is giant even though she is young. she is like 2.5 months and 33 grams.
