I was checking Petfinder.com and found a Beautiful Leopard Gecko named Lena that was bought to the rescue with some other type of gecko. My name is Liz, my dog is Luna and my gecko is Lana can you see a pattern? I saw her name as a sign! So I emailed the rescue and asked if they did out of state adoptions because they are in Maryland.

Well today I received a reply stating that she pending adoption but if that fell through she was willing to ship them my way BUT as I read the email I saw (they are very bonded and must be adopted together). For some odd reason I got really ANNOYED! How can a Leopard Gecko and a Bark gecko (i've never heard of them) be bonded!?

I know they are trying to help but wouldn't keeping them together cause harm!? They don't even look similar.. I want to reply but I don't know what to say without coming off rude since I've been known to do that at times.

Well, they may have some bond in the ladie's eyes but they are geckos, and usually geckos like their own space. But if you want to adopt her, I would just appese the lady and adopt both. Although that bark gecko looks kinda rough. :(

If she's not willing to separate I think I'll decline the offer if the adoption falls through. I'm not willing to take on a gecko I know nothing about and can't find any information about either.

I think it's a smart idea to not want to adopt something you know nothing about. That's weird they have them together. I hope they find a good home.

I know rescues mean well, but I find it disconcerting that a rescue that obviously doesn't know that much about reptiles is trying to care for them. :/

Why would someone be against separating them? Getting one adopted compared to none sounds better to me....i hope they werent being housed together.

I think I'm going to ask and voice my concerns. i believe those are the first reptiles the rescue has ever had..

Since I was really bothered by the possibility of these two gecko i sent her an email voicing my concern. I was polite as possible, voiced my concern and even thanked her for saving animals. I hope she takes what I said into consideration.

My 2 Cents

I think that it is a House Gecko.

And I think that House Geckos may represent several subspecies.

They can make noise so that is why it may be called a Bark Gecko.

They have similar heat requirements but the House Gecko is to be a little cooler.

They may want to keep them together but, you should not.

I think the picture kinda looks like the one in the ad. One thing is for sure.. if you do adopt them both.. change the name Boyd... something about that just isn't appealing in itself.

Well, I don't really know what advice to give. I suggest thinking about it.
Do some research about the bark gecko, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to take both as long as you do the research about the one you aren't familiar about.

As for the lady saying they "have a bond", she could just be saying that to get you to adopt both, and not necessarilly because she even sees it to be true. It would be kinda cute if they did though.. it does happen sometimes.

Hey, I saw a picture of a Barking Gecko on the IHerp site.

I was surprised and thought I would tell you.

You could ask for the scientific name. (thought i doubt they know it.) and that gecko apears to be arboreal and probably reqiures higher humidity than a leo. Im not 100% sure about this but keeping it (the bark gecko) in dry conditions could have respratory effects. I'm glad you sent in a word, props to you. :main_thumbsup:

Luna, Lana, Lena... L_na

2 more vowels and your out of names, unless you use Y. But then Lena,Lina, and Lyna all sound the same.and so will Lana and Lona.
So I guess your out of names now :D

Sorry to get off the subject, It was just a little funny to me.

One of our Leopard geckos ate one of our morning geckos. No we didn't have him in the same tank. Nibbler ( our baby morning gecko ) got out of his tank somehow and found a way into Ebens tank. My husband happen to look in just as the last of little nibbler was going into ebens mouth. I don't think that I would advise keeping different species of geckos together. Just my opinion.
