Corns can get large... I think a hognose would be a good choice here... They are simple to care for, rarely bite, dont get big, and they come in cool morphs these days... They are better than corns for more than just what I listed...

Corn snakes are the BEST beginner snake they get 3-4 feet long can be kept in a 20 gallon long will only require adult mice and will eat frozen/thawed corns are also docile and dont require high humidity or high temperatures

I suggest an African House snake. Adults rarely exceed 3 feet(males rarey two) they are just as easy to keep as corn snakes, and are very easy to handle.
