Idea for an enclosure

Well, I was over at a bearded dragon website looking at some of the amazing rock wall setups they have made; and an idea dawned on me. Would it be possible in a 20 gal long to have a 12" by 12" tile over the UTh, then have the foam and grout rock wall. But instead of it just being a rock wall, you make the other 2/3 of the tank all of large foam area. Kinda of like a hill of foam with various caves, ledges, etc all leading downward to the tile with the heat. Just an idea I thought of, so any comments, critiques, etc would be greatly appreciated.

That actually sounds pretty cool. But I would atleast have that in like a forty gallon if your going to do that. :D

That sounds like it would turn out amazingly. Although, you have to calculate just how much floor space you're going to lose by putting foam in there. I agree with Brad, you may want a bigger tank for a project like this.

My only concern would be how easily would it be to spot clean, in case your gecko decides to be a real pain and refuse to poo on the tile. I'd be careful with building crevices near corners :main_laugh:

That's a good point also. It would be a major pain if he decided to take a crap where you couldn't get. :main_yes:

:) My guy is really good about his "bathroom" spot, so cleaning isnt too much of a worry. For the floorspace thing, the whole thing would be floorspace if you get what Im saying. It would be just one giant rock wall that is laid on the ground basically. I would have his food and water bowl built into it, but removable of course, and his humid hide would also be hidden. I know a 40 gallon would probably be better, but space for the cage is at a minimum so I think I will just stick with his 20gal and maybe not make it as extravagant.

Also, he poops on the warm side of his cage, so unless it changes the foam palace would be no where near his office :)

Any tips on construction, ideas for decoration, or even just a howdy do are all appreciated :)

Okay, that's really cool though. I think I get what your saying about the floor thing. I will just give one suggestion: Make sure and try to make like detatchable "rock" lid to all the built in hides if you get what I'm saying. But you've probably already thought of that. Good luck!! :D

Ah, I wasn't sure if you were planning on building the foam rock up the walls as well as over the floor or if you were only doing it over the floor. As long as you aren't covering the walls, or are only minimally covering them, then I don't see why it wouldn't fit nicely in a 20 gal :) If you do decide to do this, I'd love to see the results!

Thanks a bunch, with summer in full swing the pops and I have been looking for a father and son project. I wanted to come on here first to get everyone's impressions, and I think we just found our fun :)

Also does anyone have some decoration/theme tips or ideas. I was thinking more darker colors and style. But, I don't know, maybe someone else has an idea that will spark my imagination.
