Ideas for a new camera

I need a nice camera. Something besides my cell phone and this thing I have that came in a plastic package for $60. But something that isn't going to put me months behind in my rent...I'm thinking somewhere around the $200-$300 range. Does anyone have anything they recommend?

I'm a Canon fan so I'm a bit biased. I haven't used any of their newer point and shoots but after looking over the features on their website I'd suggest the PowerShot SX110 IS. The suggested retail is $250 so you can probably find it even cheaper than that.

Hopefully someone who's shot with a similar model can chime in.

I use a Fuji Finepix S2000. It's 10 megapixels with 15x optical zoom, has manual aperture and speed settings, and has fantastic macro functions. To see some photos I've taken with it, go HERE.

I have a Powershot SX110, and I LOVE it. It's so easy to take great pics with it! It's not a battery hog, fits perfectly in my hand, and I love all the different settings, once I got used to that.
