I do have a question about where to get the gecko. i dont want to buy online and all there is in springfield ohio is a ******** and jacks aquarium.( www.jackspets.com) im calling jacks tomorrow to see if they have any baby or juvy leos that are healthy. also when you go to the pet stores do they let you hold the leos.

Yes they should, but be for warned...Not all...But many pet stores do not care for the geckos very well. So make sure they look healthy

I'm not familiar with Jack's. Their website looks nice, but their Leopard Gecko caresheet isn't exactly accurate and in fact has some glaring errors. I'd take a look at the chain and Jack's and see what kind of conditions the geckos are in at both stores. Go with whichever has the healthier, better kept geckos. Things to look out for are skinny tails, sand substrate, and over-crowding, etc. If neither location has their geckos in a good environment, I'd reconsider buying online. While it may seem scary to buy a gecko online and have it shipped to you, you really are better off dealing with a reputable breeder. There's a better chance of getting a healthy, well established baby that way.

Definitely ask to hold it. Ask to see it eat, too, if you can. Buy the most active, most lively looking one with the fattest tail. Try to stay away from any little guys who have sores around their mouths or stuck shed/missing toes, too.

IMO it depends on what your looking for. If i'm looking for something specific for a project i'm not always going to find it at a show so then i'll buy online. But i prefer to buy at shows when i can. At shows you get to meet the breeders, talk to them directly, and get to see a huge variety. I don't like buying from pet stores for many reasons, mainly not knowing the geckos genetic back ground.

the only problem with buying at shows is you go there for 2 or 3 specific geckos for projects and you come home with 5 or 6 geckos, a new ball python, a car full of tanks and supplies and some new breeding pair of something you never heard of before but just had to have.:D Oh yeah, and an empty bank account:main_laugh:
