One way to be sure not to get a jumpy gecko is to ask the breeder of one you are interested in. An adult would be more laid back than a hatchling. Check out the classifieds here and check the websites of breeders that are members here. Once you decide what kind of gecko you want then you can finish your research on care for that particular type of gecko.

Excellent idea Felicia-my mind must have been stuck on babies/juvies
Who would know their geckos dispositions better than the breeder?
An adult just might be the solution for choosing a Leo
AB3-Add the Giant factor into it and you should have a laid back Leo

An orange gecko is called a tangerine. And orange gecko with no spots on the body is called a hypo tangerine. And any leo with about 20-30% or more orange on its tail is called a carrot tail. The prices for a tangerine range from about $40 to $300 depending on how intense the orange color is, whether or not they're a hypo or a hypo baldy, and how much carrot color they have on their tail. Some are even upwards of $300, The Urban Gecko's tangerine tornados for example. Some of those are close to $900.

In my opinion, if you're just looking for a pet, don't worry about the color, but look for a nice calm one. A lot of leopard gecko breeders sell their breeding geckos from previous years. They might make better companions because they're adults and they're used to being handled.

Anyone out there have a gecko that will sit calmly with you for extended periods of time?

My year old female leo, Nadia(a.k.a. babygirl) is really sweet. She tries to climb the tank wall to get to me when she sees me and will sit on my shoulder for hours. However, I handled her from the time she was a month old.

Those are tangerines. The one in my avatar cost me about $20 at a pet store. I would suggest getting it from a breeder rather than a pet store because of health reasons. There are plenty of breeders on this forum as I believe has been talked about already in this post. Check the Site Sponsors at the top of the page, the Classified forum, or find a show near you at www.kingsnake.com

No. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure patternless leos don't have any spots even on their heads or tails and have a faded appearance. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
