I do have a question for you guys though.

You can see my female leo in this post with pics on both pages:

http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=85173

I'm am looking at getting her a mate (though she will be kept in a different enclosure untill time to breed). The thing is, I don't know what morph she is for sure. So I'm really not sure what to buy before the herp show next weekend and I don't want to go in only knowing that I need a male. :)

So seeing the pics of her and not knowing 100% what she is, what should I get for a mate in your opinion?

Thanks for any advice.

Get something without any albino strain in it unless you know which strain you have. You can get things like Bold Stripes, Tangerines, Mack/Tug/Gem/Lbs snows, Halloween masks, Bandits, etc. All without being albino/het albino. The thing with breeding is you have to enjoy what you produce so personally asking others what they should breed is fine to get ideas...but you need to browse the morphs and see which ones you like most and want to produce the most.

The thing is, I don't know for sure what I have now. I'm guessing that I should find a male that's close to what I have now...sunglow for example. Other wise I have no idea what I will end up with right?

I used to breed these guys some 15 years ago but they were not different morphs (just regular) so how this works is greek to me.

I personally think that if you are unaware of the exact genetics of both the parents who will be breeding, than you shouldn't breed them. You could possibly end up with some surprises in the offspring resulting from an unknown het/etc in the female. Plus, the offspring could carry that possibly hidden het in the genotype. The problem is with hets, they are not present in the phenotype. Therefore, you have absolutely no idea they are there without knowing the complete genetics.

I would say your gecko is a Tremper Sunglow, visually, but I have absolutely no idea if it carries any hets. Where did you get your gecko?

I agree with Carly.
I intially thought Id like to breed my petstore gecko until I realized I could be producing hets I dont know of or want.
Hes now a nice pet.
If youre going to the expo already, why dont you purchase a nice pair there, instead of a mate for your current one?

Well, I might do that but I didnt want to add two more to the mix just yet.

I might just get one now and one later on down the road....depends on what I find there I guess. I have a 10gal and a 20 long which should be fine between the three of them.

Edit: I might be able to find out what they are. They got them from a local breeder so it might be possible to contact them and find out.

Are there any reptile shows near you? Maybe you could take her with you and get an experienced breeder to have a look. Just a thought...

I personally think she's Tremper, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it unless I'm 101% sure. In this case I'm not ... Sorry!

Yes there is a show next weekend as seen here:

I might take her along if I can find something to bring her in without freaking her out too bad.

Good idea, thanks.

Oh I forgot.....the place where I got her is going to have a booth at the show as well.

So yeah I will bring her along and ask them if they know for sure what she might be.

Some places dont let you take outside pets in.
Maybe take a few pictures so you dont get thrown out ;)
