I hatched two eggs out of about 20 this season. I'm very frustrated because i know i have a good incubator, a reptipro 6000, i am using albeys method with air exchange once every three days. My eggs just are not developing. They develop for about a week then go into that white mush and never hatch. What is going on? And btw I am positive they are fertile becuase they have a prominent bright red bullseye when they are laid. This is getting frustrating becuase I put so much time and effort into this. Please help.

Thanks,

Justin

Is this your breeders first year? Have they had successful clutches hatched before? What supplements do you give your females?

Don't be deterred! If you get any successful hatches from first year breeders then that is a success. I have one gecko this year that laid 1 fertile and 1 infertile every single clutch.

As far as the incubator, are you using an accurate thermometer that can record the highs and lows that the temp gets too? Sometimes the thermometers provided are not very good. I also believe Albeys method is to open them up once every week(correct me if I'm wrong). As far as the reptipro 6000, they have been known to be good incubators except for the readings on the incubator seem to be 5-7 degrees off. They keep stable temps but their thermometer is usually off a few degrees.

As a breeder you will most likely have good and bad years. You have no where to go but up!

I'm using the reptipro5000 as you know. I have a digital thermometer with a probe that goes into the egg containers (I use the SIM). The thermometer itself sits inside the incubator. It would be a good idea to add this if you aren't already doing something like that. I agree that things with first year breeders can be up and down. My first year breeders have successfully hatched between 0 and 20 eggs depending on the gecko. If you're following the monthly breeder chronicle articles in Gecko Time, you'll see that he had a pretty crap season also. Hang in there.

Completely forgot about your gecko time articles. They are great reads and give a great insight on first year breeding.
