So I've been looking at my projects for next year and really want to improve on some of the current morphs out there (color/contrast/pattern)... Just wanted to get some views on what could be improved morph wise and how?

Every morph can be improved (or enhanced)...it really all depends on what you like the most. Name some of the morphs you are working with or interested in and maybe we can tell you how to go about improving on the look of something you like.

When I start breeding I am going to try to make brighter geckos. I have seen people do this by breeding the brightest offspring together which should result in brighter babies. And if you breed darker colored geckos together then you will get darker babies.
I'm not sure if that is what you were looking for but eventually after breeding the best offspring together or just breeding two really nice looking geckos together will result in the offspring being just as nice and even nicer than their parents.

I am working on improving my Creamsicles. I have a lot of color in them (so much so that they have more tang then a lot of Tangerines I see), however I don't want an all orange snow so I am working on improving on the white collar and a softer orange body pattern (to contrast the brighter Tangerine on them) on them. So far it is looking very good and we are getting more and more white on the collar which lasts throughout their color changing.

Our tangerines are getting more and more greens and nice white contrasting on them. We are not a fan of solid orange Tangs so we have some RS and some nice Jungles going this year. Our other projects are not as poly-genetic as these so I wont mention our work to be done with everything else.

Its called line breeding :)

its all about contrast for me, i dislike geckos that are one colour with a slightly different color pattern.

Why has no one produced a bright tangerine gecko and i mean tangerine not yellow, with a jet black pattern. Kinda like a tiger???

Things imo that need improving

Macks Snows - not white enough
RAPTORS - too many out there with too much pattern
Creamsicles - apart from enigmatic most creamsicles are very dull washed looking things- more contrast please!!!!

Novas to dull i love the ones that have these random orange blobs on them.

Lavender - need more intense lavender in geckos or maybe a solid lavender gecko.

i know what you mean. i did the same thing by buying geckos that added up to the combo morphs i wanted. i bought 1.1 shtctb, 1.3 lavender tang, 1.2 bell tang emerines, .1 mack jungle with lavender bands and bold pattern, 1. super snow, and 1.1 co-dom dark tangs(new morph). with these, i could:

1. make brighter shtctb and lav. tangs.
2. make more tang colored bell emerines
3. make super snows with more and larger spots than normal, a black gecko with thin white pattern
4. get a lav and black banded snow
5. get more lavender and tang color with my lav tang trio. male is a tornado cross.
6. prove out a new co-dom morph, the dark tangerine.

when im done improving, i can make some very extreme geckos by combining the already improved. some are:

sunglows
snow albinos
cremesicles
super cremesicles
lavender sunglows
snowglows
dark co-dom tang crosses(once morph is proven out)

and thats just a few! just get all your favorite morphs lol

I find this to be a very interesting topic because the idea of creating a new color contrast is never ending. Such as the Patternless stripe Radar's that exist. They are a perfect example of line breedings because no one else has them.

This is why I started the thread, to get more input on poly-genic traits and projects...

I personally will be working on my "Tiger Emerines" more this year trying to get the pattern more striped and bold and working on the Green Monster, Granted I'm just giving them goofy names because thats what they remind me of. But we will see what this season brings. Hope to get more input to see what else people are aiming for

I think that all 'real' breeders are trying to improve on everything they're working with. Whiter snows, brighter tangs, bolder bolds, etc.

My main project is my eclipse geckos. I have been trying to add more orange without adding any shtctb and keeping them pure patternless stripes. I do plan on doing a shtctb/eclipse cross this season though. I also want to work on bold stripe eclipses.

Kristi I must say your Eclipse Leo's are awesome, the boy I got from you is a beast, I'm going to put him with a couple different things this year to see what kind of colors/patterns come out of it. So I'll keep you posted for sure

Jordan you do not have to line breed to get brighter colored geckos. Its called selective breeding, by collecting the brightest geckos you can find and breeding them together.

and them brighter geckos came from geckos less bright geckos before hand. The tangerine in pretty much every tangerine has been line bred over the years. geckos started off yellow obviously and the tangerines have been gettting brighter and brighter through line breeding the best ones.
