Incubator headaches

We've had a rather hot start this week In Chicago it was 87 out. I don't get whats going on with my bators...One is a hovabator and the other is a converted minifrige. My basement where the incubators are located is 73 degrees and the incubator temps are mid 80's. 85-87. I cranked the thermostat down on both of them and they still run hot. Any suggestions. I've tried to put cans of soda in there to cool them but thats only a temp fix. Thanks. DO you think I'm gonna have issues with my eggs?

What kind of thermostats are you using for the incubators? I'm surprised that with the kind of basement temps you're talking about the incubators are getting up so high. In New England, when I had the hobovator, I would put it in the basement when it got too hot upstairs (usually June-Sept) and it was always fine.

Incubator? Other?

Yes, something wrong in Denmark.
Operating room temp. is best at 65 to 72
per instructions on mine.
Sure you didn't move the dial on the bator?
It may have just been a coincidence
that the bator went out at the same time
of the move.
Issues with eggs may mean some males
you weren't expected.

Take care. Hj

Somethig is wrong somewhere... if the room temp is 73 then the base temp inside the incubator shouldn't be more than a few degrees warmer. Maybe try opening the doors on them for a little while to let the temp go down quickly, then maybe they'll be fine.

Another idea is that you must have an unfinished part of the basement, a mechanical room? That's where the furnace/boiler/water heater would be, and normally it's unfinished. Put the bators in there on the floor, it should be cooler than 73.

The mini frige is on a rheostat(dimmer) and the hovabator is on its own wafer thermostat. I put a fan over by them and they seem to be cooling down. I think at the end of the season I'm going to redo the minifrige and get it more stable. It seems to want to cause condensation on my cups as well as running hotter that I'd like.
