Incubator Knowledge Needed

I have always used a plain jane poultry incubator in the past since we raised poultry as well. We have an incredible source set up as an outlet for all of our excess hatchlings here at a local retail pet store. Basically they offered to make us the number one supplier for them. Now I am completely new to the breeding of leo's as mentioned in a post about a young morph we obtained. Eventually, we will need to expand and having a zillion incubators around the bedroom will not be a good option. My husband might get aggrivated at that. Anyways, so here is my question. After a week of browsing around and checking out other incubator setup's and watching videos on youtube, I came across this home made setup. Correct me please if I am wrong but it looks simple, clean, and functional. Any and all comments are very welcome. If you guys have talked about this setup before on a previous post, I apologize.

I think it is grea tyou are getting into the hobby, but be careful it is addicting! Just as a side not ei probably would not tell a pet store you can be there only supplier when you are completely new to leos. They tend to get made when those tanks are empty in their stores. Again not to sound rude just want to you too look at it from another angle, even suppling 10 leos a month can be hard if you have never done it. Good Luck.

Thank you for the luck. I have let them know it is gonna be quite a while before I can produce enough to supply and keep up with the demand. I have many years of experience keeping my pets and have bred many reptiles so I am sure I will get back in the swing of things. It can't be harder than buying a bike and getting back on after 15 years right? lol.

Any ideas or comments on this particular incubator setup?

how many geckos do you think they can sell a month?
one incubator of a modest size can hatch out many more geckos in a couple months than any typical retailer can sell in a year.

i use a foam shipping box (12"x18"x18") that i got snakes in years ago. there's 36 eggs incubating in it at the moment, and room for many, many more!

One female leopard gecko can produce 16 eggs/year, sometimes more.

As long as the incubator you build can maintain a steady temp between 80-88 or so, it will work. If it's cheap and easy, it makes sense to build one and then test the temperatures over time. It also makes sense to put the money into the best proportional thermostat you can find so the temperatures are regulated well. I hope you are successful in your breeding. I have been breeding 6-7 females for several years now and my most successful season total was 41 babies. Other people do better than that. There are still a puzzling number of fetal deaths and deformities that I hope are minimized this year.

Best of luck in this new year to you Aliza.

We also raise and breed crested geckos. We have lots of critters so I wanted to go ahead and make a good size incubator. We picked up two SUPER nice new additions as well today. Two more SHTCT young males. I still need to replace my digital scale, oops.
