infertile egg with male?

I'm pretty sure the egg my female laid is infertile... but why didnt my male breed with her? is he sterile or what? they have been together for awhile and this is her first egg ever. Maybe it just didnt work on the first egg, they dont lay every egg fertile even if they do breed right? especially first timers. please answer all my questions and give me suggestions

It's not unusual for a male to breed with a first time female and for some or all of her eggs to be infertile. It's good she's gotten started at least.
