Good day to you all; as a common curtsey I will use this thread to introduce myself as I wish to become an active member on this forum board, I’d obviously like to get to know as many of you as I can; I’ll take the first step towards that by telling you a little bit about me, so that you get to know who I am and why I am here.
My name is Vincent Laurie, I am a young man from the province of Quebec, in Canada; I have been married for two years now and currently share my home with my wife Mélissande and a good friend, Simon. I am employed at a local exotic animal pet store that specialises in fish and reptiles, I do not wish to use this message board as an excuse for publicity, but for the curious ones, the store may be found on Facebook, it is called Aquarium Terre & Mer. My hometown is Granby and I presently live in the city of Montreal.
Over the last two years I have purchased, rescued and adopted many animals; when one operates in the trade, one is often offered excellent deals and I have fallen in a common trap which is to gear myself with too many animals; I have found good homes for my excess critters and now have a stable collection which I am not looking to add to. I own a seventy-five gallons aquarium that houses two Polypterus senegalus, one pearl gourami, one fire eel, and one black ghost knife fish. I also have a comfortable amount of reptiles: one Argentine black and white tegu, one Standing’s day gecko, a green iguana, two red-footed tortoises, a frill-necked lizard, two fire skinks, two Sudan plated lizards, two boa constrictors, and one black-throated monitor. In addition, I have one sole amphibian, an ornate Argentine horned frog. Sharing a temporary vivarium with some of my critters is my friend Simon’s Chinese water dragon.
You may be wondering what I am doing on a gecko forum if most of my creatures do not relate to the gecko family. The main reason I have joined this forum is because I’ve found many threads that speak of reptile care and maintenance that can apply to any reptile. I have also kept leopard geckos in the past (I had adopted some sick babies and managed to save two out of three, which I entrusted to my brother and sister (and supervising father), to keep and care for in their own home), I also own a beautiful Phelsuma standingi specimen named Curtis.
As far as background goes, I can share that reptiles have been a passion for me from a very young age. Thankfully, my mother had kept me from owning one until I got my own place, and even then, I waited another few years before adopting my first reptile (a Sudan plated lizard, which I still own). I had been employed by a large-scale pet store chain called Safari Pet Center for a year, which is when I got to do most of my research on reptiles, learning as much as I could to keep the reptiles from the store safe and healthy and give good advice to people looking to purchase an exotic animal. Sadly, Safari is one of those pet store that the owners have forgotten their initial love for animals and that strained my work experience; when I was offered a job at Aquarium Terre & Mer (where I had been a customer for a while), I didn’t hesitate a moment to do the jump. This new work environment suits me better as it fits my ethics and morals much more.
So that’s it, thanks for welcoming me to this board, I hope to get to know you all better!
