Irresponsible pet owners drive me NUTS!

Hello All I'm really Pissed off so don't mind me :D

I have these neighbors which are nice people for the most part a little out there with some of the things they do but for the most part nice people BUT HORRIBLE PET OWNERS! They were given a black and white cat a few years ago that turned out to be a female and since she was never fixed she seems to ALWAYS be in heat. Since they first received the cat me and my mom have been telling them very nicely that they should get their cat fixed. God forbid she ran away or ended up having some type of cancer that could have been avoided with a simple little operation. Now I understand how expensive it is to have a cat fixed because I have a cat and a dog and it cost around $500 to get both of them fixed by our vet so I searched for alternatives. Here in NYC we have an organization that you might know of called the ASPCA that can be seen on Animal Plant (one of those animal cop shows, the best one I might had :main_laugh: ) Well this is a really great organization it deals with animal abuse/neglect, adoption, education, affordable vet care, etc. One program that they had is free spaying and neutering, they have a van that goes around to low income areas and the first 25 people to show up with their animals are fixed, given some vaccinations if you want/need them and you just have to pay $3-$5 for the E-Collar. They also have a small clinic here in the Bronx that you can go and set up an apt. to get your animal checked for either a very small fee or free. Anyway when they first got the cat I downloaded and printed the vans ENTIRE schedule, requirements, times, EVERYTHING and even reminded them on the days and they NEVER went.

Well time passed and a few months ago someone else gave them a little kitten that turned out to be a boy. Of course we spoke to them again about getting their NOW cats fixed before he started spray that nasty smell throughout the house and especially before they had a new liter of kittens to add to the unwanted list in shelters. As time went on I downloaded, printed out the schedule again in the hopes that they would finally take my seriously but NO luck until the other day. It seems that the little boy has reached sexual maturity and is now spraying the funk all over the house and has even tried mounting the female cat but she's not having since she's not in heat. This time they finally took our advice and once again I looked up the information but this time a little ticked off! They have a computer thats connected to the internet, a printer that prints, eyes to help them see and functional hands that are able to type!!! BUT somehow I have to be the one to find the information!? It's not complicated at all type in ASPCA.org click on the search, type in spay/neuter then click on the right link. If you can be on myspace all freaking day then you can take 5 seconds to look up the schedule and make a note of it. Thinking of the animals I looked it up anyway because I know if they didn't have it in front of their damn faces they would make up some phony excuse NOT to go.

Today was the day that they were planning to take both cats because the poor little boy has been locked away in a crate for the past few days because of the spaying and the female seems to be going into heat. My mom reminded them last night that today was the day that the van would be in front of Petland and that she should get their early. They said oh yeah I'll set my alarm for it, YEAH RIGHT! My mom wakes up everyday at 5:30am and leaves for work at 7am while I wake up a 7am to get ready for class. Well I got up a 6 something and my mom noticed that it was awfully quiet next door and went out to throw out the trash and heard one of the cat meowing away (the little male locked in the crate) so she knocked on the door since the flier says to get their before 7am so you could have a better chance of being one of first 25. Surprise, surprise they had over slept and complained that it was TOO late to take them now even though the spot is literally 5 mintues away by foot (I should know I walk to and from the bus everyday). My mom went into a panic and told them that since it was cold and a week day that most likely not that many people should be there and she should atleast try! Finally they agreed but we had to hand over a pet carrier and a blanket because they didn't know how they were going to take them.

A few hours had passed and I called my mom when I was at school to see if the little ones had finally been fixed. Much too their luck the van over heated or something like that and they weren't able to do and fixing until it got fix but the workers/volunteers suggested that she go over to fordham (further away but doable, if you can go down there to shop, get piercings and tattoos and junk you can take your cats to get fixed) Well she didn't feel like going ALL the way over there and jumped into the cab that she took to Petland (like I said a 5 minute walk away) and came right back home complaining that she was broke had "things" to do! Which surprises me because you don't work and basically have your friend living with you as if he were a modern day slave so what "things" were you doing!? If you can't take care of the damn cats give them to someone that can instead of making them suffer! uuughhh! Do I have to offer and pay so the animals can be finally taken care of!? I don't understand!

*rubs ears* Wu-Sa!

I'm sorry if I sound really judgmental thats not the way I am but some times people just get to me! Why take on the responsibility of having an animal if your going to be irresponsible!? I just don't get some people! Especially when it's FREE.

Have you guys offered to take the cats for them?

NO! Because that's were WE draw the line. My mom works and I go to school and we're not going to wake up early to take someone else's cats then have to go BACK to pick them up that is their responsibility! Most of my neighbors don't work or go to school and are home during the day so I don't see whats the BIG deal especially since they're NOT disabled or elderly if she was an old lady that didn't have family to help her I would gladly help look after them and take them to the vet and everything but she an able bodied citizen thats younger then my mom with teenage kids.

I guess I'm annoyed because its not the first time something has happened with their animals. They're constantly knocking on my door asking for cat or dog food, wee pads, kitty litter, etc. We have a cat, dog, 3birds and a gecko and my mom is the only one working right now and she shouldn't have go deeper into her pockets trying to support one else's animals when she's done enough digging into her pockets to help the stray cat community around our neighborhood by feeding them, finding homes for a few stray kittens and trying to see how to get them spayed . . .

I just figured it's not that big of a step since you seem so passionate about it. You've gone so far as to confront them, print them out directions, and even check up on them at 6 am to see why they hadnt taken the cats in. It is afterall only a 5 minute walk as you said many times...

It may be a 5 minute walk, but it isn't Liz's responsibility. She's doing far more than her responsibility as it is. Their cats. Their problem. Liz is being a nice person and helping them out as it is. I can totally see drawing the line where you do Liz.

agreed, if you don't let them make their own mistakes, they will always rely on others to do stuff for them and begin to take advantage of them

Thats exactly what I mean.. Like whats next? Me going over everyday to clean up the kitty litter!? Its so frustrating because I know that the cats deserve more than that and see what happens day after day with kitties that aren't fixed! I just got a call the other day about someone needing to find homes for 9 kittens . . . I'm torn because I want whats best for ALL animals because they all deserve the best care but then again I'm not going to pick up the slack for someone thats lazy and doesn't care, if only I could find a hot red poker and poke her in the behind to get moving . . . and what pissed me off even more last night is that she lied about the van overheating or whatever. Her daughter came over last night to ask for something and we asked if they had rescheduled and her daughter said no that it was just a lie. The taxi pulled up and there was a line she didn't feel like waiting. Funny thing is that when I got on the bus at 9am it was there and when I came back home at 6pm is was still out there with the tables and its volunteers/workers.

I just give up. I can only help those that want to be help and are also willing to help themselves. My blood is boiling. Last night at 2am my dog got an ear itching fit (middle ear infection) I stood up all night trying to ease her pain and luckily my mom had the day off and was able to rush her off to the vet to ease the pain and give her the proper meds so it didn't get worse. Why can I do that but they can't do something as simple as spay/neuter their cats. Its basically FREE! and eliminates a number of health problems for the feature. I just don't understand. I know everyone isn't like me but I still don't get the logic of just putting it off and putting it off.

It was just a question. If you think about it, doing any of those things wasn't her responsibility. If I were you, Liz...I'd just forget about it. Even though that may be hard to do since you are obviously a huge animal lover. Some people just dont care...which is really sad.

I'm not trying to make this sound rude...just my opinion

I also think it's way rude of them to be coming over and asking for help in caring for their cats. They obviously shouldnt own animals

Eventually, it's all gonna hit them like a wall of bricks...when there's 50 million kittens running around their house and the neighborhood pooping and peeing EVERYWHERE...the constant "scream" of a female in heat & being bred...and the fact that females go into heat every few weeks if they're NOT bred...

In 6 years, one unspayed female and her offspring can produce over 60,000 animals...
So eventually I can almost guarentee that you guys won't be the only ones complaining about them...

I would also stop answering the phone calls, and the cries for help since they don't want to help themselves. Not very neighborly, but THEY'RE not acting very neighborly either.

Next time they ask for food tell them your busy at the moment but will bring it over in an hour or so, and never show up:D

I personally have given up. If I now they're knocking and I'm home alone I act as if I don't hear it, lmao. And if they ask me for something I tell them I don't have it at the moment. My mom on the other hand has a lot of work to do.

They just knocked on my door to tell me that they think the cat is already pregnant since her belly is growing! Sadly due to the fact that she's not fixed she could be OR she could have gotten that weird infection in the uterus that my grandmothers cat got a few years ago. Which would have been prevented if she would have fixed her as a kitten but grandma learned her lesson about kitties and spaying once she made the discussion to either put her cat to sleep or have an entire procedure to remove everything that ran her about $1300. She of course choose to save Princess. Sad part is if my neighbors cat has that infection I think they'll just put her down just so they don't have to deal with her.

Now I'm sad.. :main_no:
