I run nearly all my tanks on alife. They are not precise (I'd never run an incubator on one) but very serviceable for the money. I have read reports of alife thermostats failing and the temp going way up, but it hasn't happened to me in 6 years. By the way, it seems that ESU thermostats are the same thing as alife.

I like the ReptiTemp 500R (RT-500R) thermostat. Use a Really good digital temp instrument and calibrate/fine tune your temp for a day until you get the thermostat adjusted perfectly. You need to adjust this thermostat very slowly and in tiny increments until it is where you want it.
I've got mine set for 89-90 and it holds that one degree range perfectly.
