Is he a Snow?

Ever hatched a baby that wasn't completely black and white that proved to be a Snow?

I would really appreciate some comments on this one.

First off, has anyone ever hatched out a baby from a Snow pairing that wasn't completely black and white at hatch, but ended up proving to indeed be a Snow?

We hatched this gecko this past season:

If you didn't know anything else about him, you would think he was a Snow, right? He is whiter than some of our other Snows.

But this is what he looked like as a hatchling:

Notice how he's not necessarily yellow and black like our other non-Snow hatchlings, but he's black with more of a golden color.

Please share your thoughts! He has been white ever since he was very little, I came back from vacation last summer to find him like this:

I just figured he was a very light normal, but now that I'm seeing some Snows of ours getting more yellow than he has.. well, I just don't know?

I have a Snow Enigma that has a yellow tint to her. It shows most when she has just shed. I think it will fade with age. I don't think it's uncommon. I've only hatched four Snows to date. They're all black and white. That one you have did have a lot of yellow to it as a hatchling. I have seen other Snows with small amounts of yellow in them. Nice Leo. It looks like a Snow to me. I have other Snows also, 10 all together... and counting. My latest two just hatched yesterday.

Thanks :) We won't be keeping him to test breed because we don't really have any females for him to breed with (they're all paired up already). So maybe he can be test bred by the person he goes to.

Any other thoughts anyone?

I did hatch one snow this season that had a pale yellow tint, but not nearly as yellow as that one. She yellowed out as she aged.

It depends on what type of Snow you are talking about, Jess. ;)

Mike, I was thinking along those lines, also. I don't think he's a Mack Snow, but I definitely think he could have something Line Bred going on. ;) I didn't answer the poll since it seemed to be maybe implying co-dom Snow.

Just my humble opinion. :)

Yes, one parent was a Mack Snow and one parent was a Line Bred Snow.. so I guess he is just lighter due to the Line Bred genes, and is still a normal/pastel?

That would be my conclusion Jess... He is stunning btw and if I had room for a LBS project I wouldn't hesitate making him my stud! ;)

Jess, he is gorgeous!! I would definately say LBS poss het mack genes but would need to prove out. I think it would be difficult, however.

In fact, the reason for the yellowing may be due to getting the "normal" gene rather than the mack from the mack snow. Since it takes 2 mack genes to get the homozygous (SS). But due to the LBS, it is keeping it more white than a normal would be?? I am guessing and probably not making sense:confused::main_huh:

Regardless, he is beautiful and unique!! What LBS line did you use??
