is it necessary to keep a UVB light if you have a UTH?
cause I bought a UTH today, and I feel like the UVB light will cause over excessive heat.

Just with the UTH the floor temp is between 90-92.3F
too hot?

The floor temp is fine. The UVB is not necessary (though there are people who think they can be beneficial).

With just the UTH your temps are perfect for the warm side. You don't need the UVB, IMO. You run the risk of baking them with both on.

In the winter, I found that I need the heat lamp (in addition to the UTH) to keep the air temperature in range. Without it, I found my geckos "stuck to the floor" and not motivated for much activity. However, I'd like to pose the question to the experienced keepers if this was just a state semi-hibernation, or something.

Thanks everyone
yeah i think Im gonna take the light out
cause the light serves about 89F and the UTH is around 90F

Do you think the UTH will supply good amount of heat at night
cause my room goes down to about 69-71F

Your temp is perfect with just the UTH. That's all I use with my leos.

Leos are usually ok with a slight temp drop at night. I would use a temp gun or thermometer with a probe and check the temp at night just to make sure, though, before doing or not doing anything. If you know how much the temp actually drops on the warm side at night, you'll know if you need to be concerned or not. ;)

Oh okay!
yeah, last night I turned of the light
and woke up periodically to see if the temp was too low on the hot side
but I stayed around 80F when the air temp is usually 86F-88F
the cool side was at 75F, so is that pretty ideal for night temps?

I think I'm gonna keep the light on most of the day, since its getting summer time, we're keeping our house pretty cool.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has been kind enough to reply to my posts, you all are very helpful and just so nice! Thanks :D

Air temps are not critical, it's the ground temp you need to worry about (I can't stress that enough). Leo's get most, if not all, of their body heat from through their bellies. That's why it's so important to use a UTH or heat tape.

The ground temps need to be some where between 88-94 degrees. To measure the ground temps accurately you need to use a probe or temp gun.

Over head heat lamps don't usually heat the ground well enough without causing harm to the gecko. Reptiles are kinda dumb in this department. They know they need the heat even if it's too hot. This can lead to thermal burns and dehydration.

Most UVB bulbs give off little heat. It's still debated too as to whether or not it is beneficial to leo's. We do know that they can still survive without it.
