is there any way you can tell the gender of a leo by it's body structure?

If you can get a good hold on it and look at it's underside you'll see a V shape set of pores. It looks more than large enough to sex visually.

Other signs of a possible male are a thick neck and larger head as well as bulges at the base of the tail. (Usually visible from a profile)

Hope that helps..

its by no means a proven method but to me it seems the males and females heads are little different sized and shape when they are older. males have a wider head. just what i noticed....since most males are bigger
and males seem to have a broader tail base.
i prefer the v method...but its just something i noticed

i get it right about 75% of the time when i look at breeder sites(little game i play) and i say yours looks like a male..

The head of yours looks male (broad), but I have had the occasional male with a narrower head or female with a broader head.

I agree. We do have one female that looking at her head you would think she is male. Checking the plumbing is the best way.

Also, if it is too young to tell, take a powerful flash light, hold them upside down & put the light on their back so that their body turns red from the light trying to shine through. Using this, a male will have visable veins leading to his stuff & females will not.

The v & bludges are the best way to tell, although, if its a male, it will show these until it is a bit older, around 5-6 months old I think, (someone correct me if thats wrong).

You can get some very girly looking males too... especially if they have not had the best care.

Faraz looked 100% female when I got him (no noticable pores). He was 9 months and had been neglected and kept in a tank with another gecko who was twice his size and ate all the food.

That was 8 months ago and now he's grown an inch and fattened up a bit and all of a sudden there is a very obvious V of pores.
But he is still far more dainty and delicate than Yassir and Samir my two other rescued males

One of my rescued leos looks male to me (meaning, when I go to check the plumbing I can see pretty obvious "holes" where the hemipenes would come out, but can't see the pores or bulges). He's 6 months old and has been severely under-supplemented as far as vitamins go. Hasn't grown or matured the way a healthy 6 month old would. It never occured to me that sex visibility would be affected by that, though. That's interesting. I'll have to wait and see until he puts on enough weight and grows an inch or two and check again to see if I'm right.

Oh, and as far as head/neck shape goes on yours: looks male to me. My females always look sleeker, more delicate, than my blocky males

I will include the disclaimer that I got a new pair of glasses too LOL.
When I got him there was a faint line that could have been pores. But my vet thought he was female too.

But he is very obviously a he now if you flip him over... but from the top is still
girly

Two weeks after I got him (the angle makes his tail look fat, but it was really skinny)
