Hi,

I just cut this egg open, day 101. I found this alive, premie hatching. I incubated it at 79 F. It is alive but seems to still be in the shape of the egg. I put it a container with moist papertowls.

Is there hope for this little guy? Looks like a bit of the yolk is left.

Awww, I really hope he DOES make it! I've always been trained that there is always a chance for hope. If it's meant to be, then it's meant to be. It's kinda been my own motto this year! :) Does he move at all? Poor baby, I hope he makes it.

He hissed at me. And i seen him move his bad leg , probaly trying to get unstuck. His legs are 'stuck' to his body don't think he'll make it. Very nice mack snow too!

We had one like this, and though it took a lot of care, she survived and is in perfect health. Her toes were sticking together but they eventually separated. I kept her in the incubator for several days with a moist paper towel. I eventually started giving her the tiniest bits of ensure/ slurry. This is VERY difficult when they are so tiny. We fed her several times a day for several weeks.

Michelle did you put anything to help it loosen the legs or just leave it in the incubator? Was it just the toes or was the legs stuck , and sort of looks like the tail is? I am so worried for this little one! This is probaly the most deformed gecko I've hatched.

Any advise is great!

I had one hatch like this, I tore the membrain away from the nose and mouth and left it in incubator for a day on moist paper towels. Then I removed it and put it in my rack on moist towels..thats actually the only special treatment it recieved. The gecko is doing perffect now.

Well you might disagree with this.. but the gecko looked like it had 1 upper leg and 2 bottom legs and was not going to be able to live, so I culled it also had a overbite sevre

It's in a better place.

Well, I think I would have attemted to pull the gecko out and see if it was gonna be ok, rather than saying it "looked" like it had problems. But to each his own. You did what you felt was right.

:furious3:  forgive me but i dont understand why you would post such a thing, get advice and then just assume and not try anything... :main_thumbsdown: imagine if humans got killed cuz of an overbite or a slight defect... :uneasy: :sad3: ehh im sorry... ill stop here... as stated above im sure you did what you felt you needed to do... sorry it didnt work out... please dont be offended... im just the owner of big heart for life... i mean i have live bearing fish and if they die while pregos... we cut them open in attempt to save the unborn babies... and yes sometimes it pays off :main_thumbsup: *shrug*

ok i may be way out of line here concidering ive never tried breading, ive never had baby geckos or even eggs... and im still learning lots... as with everything in my posts... its just MY OPINION... never meaning to start anything or pick people apart... just give my opinion... nuttin more nuttin less...

BTW... thats one cool story and way cool pics chris!!! :main_thumbsup:

It's tough to tell what's going on with these little guys till they are out of the membrane. I know my littlest looked pretty sad for a couple of weeks. You would never know it now! It's toes were stuck together, but I really left her alone for a few days before examining her too closely, too much stress. Maybe next time wait till you can tell that the egg is truly bad.

Bill,

The gecko could hardly keep it's eyes open. You can't compare humans to reptiles totally difrent, I don't have a vet within 4 hours from me that has some knowledge. Why make this gecko suffer to go there to egt examed, book an apoinment probaly within another 5 days and then go back an NO garuntee of anything? And Bill you said you've never bred so you have no experience with a gecko this deformed, so why make assumtions about how horrible it was for me to cull this gecko? And don't say I didn't try anything I made probaly 5 phone calls to other Canadian gecko breeders, they were clueless to of what to do.

The tail was twisted around one of the legs, so I didn't want to try to 'undo' this little gecko just on case I broke his leg(he was .5 grams) , and the tail fell of after that happend he wouldn't have been able to survive.

My pictures didn't even show what really was happening to this guy, it looked like arm was stuck in his stomach (although it wasn't) and he didn't have a leg(twisted in the tail).

So you tell me bill was it so horrible this gecko got culled? With the 10-15 geckos that have had deformititys and I have kept alive, and adopted out kind of offends me one gecko in my personal experince that I didn't think could survive and ALL you can see is what my camera shows. Future reference I would NEVER cull a gecko if I didn't think it could live, this is my second one I culled don't think it is that bad to 400+ offspring over the past few years.(Some of course didn't live but I didn't cull them out of the egg.)

I love my geckos. I love the amazing hatchling pics posted here on gf. But I am not cut out to face the decisions a breeder must make. Sorry you're wee one didn't thrive. I hope the rest of your season is healthy.

These kinds of comments are not what we want to see here on GeckoForums.net. I am closing this thread until people can cool down.
