I just got this Raptor last week... The moment I saw her, she had her mouth WIDE open, ready to bite... and everytime I gently handle her, she opens her mouth and tries to latch onto me... has anyone else had this bizarre problem!?

pretty sad, cuz the I got a 2nd Het raptor from the same breeder, and that one is ALL messed up neurologically and cant walk straight without falling onto her back. What is GOING on in the breeding world!?!? Good GOD!! Stop breeding abnormal geckos!...Ooo i feel like naming names, but that is frowned upon. By the same token, the gecko community should be aware of bad breeding practices...

Do you wash your hands before handling her? I ask because my gecko tried to latch onto me in that fashion once. Not a fast bite, but a deliberate latching on similar to that pic. I had made chicken for my husband and then fed the dogs. He was flicking his tongue repeatedly in one spot and then opened his mouth to latch. I'm thinking I must have forgotten to wash my hands and he smelled something.

The "nasty" gecko does occur sometimes (unless, as the previous poster suggested, it's just smelling food). The gecko with neuro problems is a real issue if you weren't warned. I wouldn't hurry to tar all breeders with the same brush, though since most of us are pretty ethical. I hope things work out for you.

It is a consistently aggressive behavior she exhibits, and Im now wondering, is this a 'hot female' [as someone suggested on another forum] or are there neurological deficits I should be concerned about if I want to potentially breed her...

I recently ordered 16 geckos from 5 different breeders, and 4 out of the 5 breeders have provided wonderful service; bright-eyed, alert, and responsive animals as well as the complete genetics of their animals...

I've contacted the breeder and hopefully they will make things right :) Thanks everyone!
