All thethings you're describing are normal. If he's biting her neck, he does want to mate and may have already. Two things, though: it's really important to keep a new gecko separate from the ones you already have for at least a month to make sure no one is going to get sick and get the other sick. ALso, since it's likely they are trying to mate, are you prepared for eggs, with incubator etc., do you have caging and food for hatchlings and do you know what you'll do with them.

It could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months till she lays, at least in my experience. They will come out of the hide any time from soon to never, also in my experience.

erm is this the female that you had with another that died just a few days ago? Didn't you get her checked out to see if she was ok and not ill with what ever caused the other ones death? And what about quarentine...?
You were saying only a few days ago that you couldn't afford another viv and your parents wouldn't pay for any vets/treatment for the sick one and yet you're now planning on breeding?!
I'm sorry but you seriously need to do some responsible thinking here :main_no:

did you actually have a full fecal test done? one that tests for all parasites as well as crypto?
Either way the one that's just died was obviously seriously ill ~ there's a good chance that anything it had has been passed to the other female ~ you haven't practised any form of quarentine with the new male whatsoever and yet you're jumping straight in with breeding! :main_no:

Wrong, wrong, wrong!
I agree totally

I'd also like to know if it was actually a full fecal test that was done as I know over here that has to be sent to a lab to be done and it can take a week or so for the results to come back.

I agree, also your female doesn't look at all old enough to breed, didn't you say you just got her, if she lays too young that's like having a preteen get prego.

You really should think about the responibilities, and what if one of the babies needs vet care? and what about all the food they'll be eating, and if you can't afford another $10 aquarium with all the fixings, maybe you shouldn't be doing this. :(

Just think about it first...okay

How old are your male and female? What do each weigh?

Did you have full fecals done on both of them before introduction? Since you didn't quarantine, you're taking a big risk for both of them, especially since your female's last cagemate was so sick and recently died.

What are you feeding your geckos? Are you raising your own feeder colonies so there'll be less cost to feed all the babies? What about supplements? It's very important that breeding females have enough calcium for egg production.

What sort of set up do you have ready for the babies? It's best if each one is housed separately so you can monitor them and make sure they're all getting a fair chance at eating. If your parents weren't willing to buy a second viv for your sick female that passed on, are they really willing to spend the money for the appropriate set up for the babies?

Do you plan on separating the male after breeding? If a single male and a single female are kept together, sometimes the male can pressure and bully the female too much and it can put too much stress on her.

Are you prepared to take the geckos to the vet if anything goes wrong? As long as it took for your parents to finally agree to take your deceased gecko, I would worry that if anything goes wrong, there would be resistance about another vet trip. Are you aware of the health risks of breeding, such as your female becoming egg bound?

Have you done any research on breeding? Do you know how to tell if your female is ovulating? How to recognize eggs in her stomach? Sounds like you haven't, since you're asking us how long it'll be until she lays.

It's great that you already have a plan for the babies, but you do realize that you probably still won't be making a profit, right?

Sorry if it seems that we're all jumping on you here, but these actions and decision that you've made to put these two together to breed is HIGHLY irresponsible and not well thought out. I doubt you'll bother to answer my questions here, but I'm asking them because these are all things that you (and your parents) should have thought about before you got a male and put him in with your female.

I think you have been put on "IGNORE".

What a shame - you are only trying to inform and help. I wish people would care a bit more about the critters they keep!

I think we were fed a bunch of lies and some times its hard to come up with more lies to cover the previous ones. I just really feel bad for the animals that they own. :(
