June bugs as feeders?

Just thought I'd bounce the idea off of you guys. My friend and I are looking at starting up possible feeder colonies and we came across June bugs. There are so many out here now that starting a feeder colony would be incredibly easy. Has anyone done this before? Do you think it's a good idea?

Its something I would avoid, but simply because I've found out the hard way that wild insects can be carriers of many parasites and pathogens.

I'm not talking about taking them from the backyard and feeding. I was talking about taking them, breeding them, and feeding them after a few generations. They wouldn't be carriers of any parasites, then.

Maybe, but in my experience leopard geckos don't seem to like hard shelled beetles. Leopard geckos will ignore mealworm beetles in their tanks, and june bugs have such thick shells that I don't think the geckos would like to chew on them very much at all. So, unless you're going to feed them larva, I would avoid it.

Plus junebugs fly, and they're about as smart as a rock with wings. Do you really want to have the potential of idiotic junebugs flying around your house?

And they STICK. :laugh4: When they crash-land on your skin or clothes (and June bugs *always* crash-land ;) ), extracting them can be rather difficult. Though I'm sure you know that, if they're all over! :D

Aaah summertime Junebugs, such fond memories we have of our not so bright neighbors. ;-) They stick, they crash, they can't fly in a straight line, and they seem to have a fondness for hair. Gotta love 'em.

Ooh, yes, hair. How could I forget all those happy days of screeching "GET IT OFFA ME!!!!!!!" and beating my head like a maniac every time I walk under a porch light at night .... ;)
