I am new to leos but not reptiles..I am looking to get for sure 1 if not 2 leos (females) just so i can house them together!!I am shopping online just because i refuse to get anything from the big box stores.

I am just looking for a pet i have no desire to get into breeding what so ever.
I have a feeling people will post "yeah when i got my first leo i did not think i was going to start breeding"

The ones I like are always 100+ then ontop of that shipping? :(

My question is this...are the prices that high just because leos are so easy to breed so people(breeders) think every leo they sell will be bred out?

Also where are the juveniles at...majority of them are adults?

You have to realise that even some females won't get along even if housed together, you have to have another set up prepared just incase, you have to quarentine anyways for the first month atleast so it makes sence. If you decide to put them together then that set up must be ready immediately.
As for the juvies, its the start of the season at the moment, so many people are just getting hatchlings in around now, if they are not on the website phone or email many have geckos that they don't post on the website, (for the sheer fact they have so many) also yes the market is overflooded with leos. If you are looking for just a pet and a challenge check the classifieds on here you may find some up for adoption, some have special needs (enigmas some others with other defects)

Hope that helepd.

Hmm ... a quality, well-cared-for leo from a respected breeder will generally cost more than an ill-kept pet store leo, rarer morphs will cost more than common ones, and better examples of a morph will cost more than poorer ones.
Maybe it's not assumed all high-end leos *will* be bred, but they *can* be bred, which will make them a bit more valuable.

I don't know the going rates for leos these days (never bought one myself!), but are the ones that catch your eye Normals or something else? Maybe you just have expensive tastes?

I know I'd mark up my leos as high as I could get away with if I were selling - if someone's willing to pay that much for a leo, chances are better they'll actually take care of the thing. ;)

If you plan on buying a well taken care of gecko it will definately cost you more. Size usually matters a lot too. If you dont want to spend a lot of money on a leo from a reputable
breeder then you can hunt for a healthy looking one in pet shops and it will cost you less.(If you do this then make sure the gecko is not dehydrated or looks sick)I have bought a few geckos from pet shops and one of them was impacted on purchase. A week later after hand feeding with baby food and veg. oil it died, i dont think it even had a chance.(It was my first leo and i had'nt done any research on what healthy geckos look like)
So do your research if you choose to shop from pet stores.

well you all have really good points i didn't think of....like if i buy from a big box store i don't know what i am getting healthy/ sickly.
But if i spend the extra and get from a breeder, then my chances are greater for getting a well taken care of leo..

Thanks all i was just a little frustrated when i posted that...cause i really really want a leo....truth be told.I Just found out today my Job is closing it's doors in 2 months of not sooner.

This last week i went out and got the housing, uth, hides, thermo ect... spent about 80 bucks..... now just cant find the leo i would like under 100.... o well at least i have a nice looking tank in my living room :D

See if there's a reptile show near you. The prices are often lower and there's no shipping. I know there are breeders here from Ohio, but I have no idea if they're close to you. Craigslist is always an option and there can be some good deals with healthy geckos, but if you have little experience with geckos, it can be hard to tell which are healthy and which have been abused.
