I was asked last week if a high school girl could come over to take pics of my reptiles for a class assignment. Today she showed up with 2 of her friends. She took pics of some of my turtles and Leopard Geckos. Her friends never held and type of reptile before. So I very gently put my leopards Bonnie and Clyde in there hands. They now tottaly love leopard Geckos. They can't believe how soft their belly and under the neck is. I showed them only 5 of the differant morphs I had before they had to go. They are coming back in a couple days to take more pics and learn about leopards.

I convinced my mother (a primary school teacher) to get leopardgeckos in stead of goldfish in the class room! The children totally love them and some of them got leopardgeckos themselves! I'm doing my bit of creating reptile awareness as you can see! haha. Good thing if more people learn that they aren't dirty or scary or anything!

awesome good job! i love it when classrooms have reptiles in them, i met a teacher once who had bearded dragons and wanted to get a leopard gecko or fat tail gecko for the classroom. and i had a teacher who had a nice snake(i forget what kind) in the room. oh that reminds me of a story. when i was in junior high school (grade 7) i brought my leos in to english class and fed them infront of the class(i forget what the occasion was)(oh i remember i had to explain in detail one of the processes i do to take care of the animal((one student explained how to walk a dog and brought his dog in the class)) *done rambling*

That's great! We had one that went to live in an elementary school classroom last year. I think it's awesome to turn people on any reptile.

Very cool John!!

A couple of weeks ago, I went to my son's school and spoke to his class (2nd grade) and a kindergarten class about the leopards. I brought a few with me, and some hatched eggs so they could feel them, as well as my super helper younger son. The kids were TOTALLY into it - and my oldest son's class wrote me thank you letters with pictures on them. I think anything that raises kids' awareness/interest in reptiles is a good thing!! :main_thumbsup:

I did the same thing for my son's before and after school program earlier this year. I was amazed at how interested little 5 and 6 year olds were as a group and what great questions they asked. I think the best part for them was when I was poo'ed on, though

Very cool of you!! :D I was very pleased that none of the geckos pooped on anyone - including me. I did let the kids hold the geckos if they wanted to, so that certainly could have happened. May have ruined them for life!!! :main_laugh:

Here in Denmark we often have arrangments to show and learn both children and adults about reptiles.
Not so long ago we were in a mall, showing people our animals...one older ( 65+ ) lady hold a big spider for the first time in her life. The same evening she called the guy who owned the spider and bought one :)

This is a pic from the mall...
