Kinked tails, missing toes, ETC

Ok, so I have a question, and I hope no one takes offense to this because I truly do not understand nor know the answer, so please no one take offense to this.

I see in the adoption area that people are "giving away" geckos that either dont grow, or have kinked tails or are missing toes, ETC... basically have a flaw in their physical appearance. So, I guess my question is, is why? Why give them away? I mean, cant you charge for those geckos also? And if not, why not? Just because they are missing a toe or have a kinked tail?

Please bear in mind that when answering this, I am not into breeding or anything of the sort, I just love to have leopard geckos and play with them. Thanks for the responses, and again, I hope I didnt offend anyone.

Most of the people "giving" them away are breeders. Animals that have kiks etc. should not be bred, therfore, alot of breeders will adopt them out to good homes. They arnt doing it to make a buck, but to ensure that they get to a wonderful home.

Yeah, I spoke to a breeder about this and it makes sense. I just feel bad for the "free" animals because who is to say that one is better than the other but from a breeders perspective I guess it makes sense.

I had a small number of geckos with deformities last season. If I have a gecko that needs special care (e.g. gecko with poorly formed eyelids that needs its eyes rinsed daily) I adopt it out for free to someone with experience who will take the time to care for it. If I have a gecko with a minor deformity that does not need special care, I sell it at a reduced rate.

In all honesty, the geckos have no clue that one is "worth" more than another, lol.

i give away any animals that i produce with imperfection as i simply dont want them in my breeding stock or collection. id rather have them go to a good home (all animals i give away go to someone i know will give the care they need). im not saying they make worse pets, they are basically the same (a kinked tail or missing toe is no biggie, the gecko will still make a great pet), i personally just dont like looking at them and dont keep them...it bothers me. i havnt hatched anything that was super messed up, but if it couldnt eat or survive on its own it would be culled (personal choice, dont hang me for it).

Personally, that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. I don't breed or anything, but working with animals for so long with a humane society...I wouldn't think twice about owning a pet like that. In fact, one of mine has an extra toe on his front left foot.

One of my geckos has a regen tail, almost no toes on her back feet and has really bad sheading problems, but she is a sweetheart that likes to be held.

i got 2 beautiful geckos from chris (yellermelon) and one of them doesnt gain weight and the other is missing toes.
they're still animals its just the fact that if they charged for them they might not get good homes for them.
i can already tell nubbs (missing toes on her) is a sweetheart. spanky (doesnt gain weight very well) seems to be shy but is nice too
