i kno i posted this already but no one actually answers only 1 person well i have a 7 yaer old female never met a male before until 2 days ago.... its breeding season and im hoping they breed... but they stay in the same tank so do i need to take the male into diff tank and reintrocude... or just cool them even tho.... the females been kepping off the hot side which was at 87-90 degrees F but i lowered it to 77 degrees faranhite depending on the answers ill get ill either add more heat or leave it till the 1 month is up... and has she gone to long with out a male to breed?

77 is way to cold they have to have about 93 on hot side during the day and mid 80s in the night. they have to have a belly heat of about 85 for processing food

uhm during cooling they dont eat.... so no they dont need belly heat i wasnt asking that >.<

ok so well if you want your female that is already 7 yrs old to lose alot of weight just to have babies thats your choice...poor but whatever its your gecko. breeding is natural if they want to breed.

I don't understand why you would want to cool the female after you've tried to breed her. It can take weeks for females to lay after a successful breeding.

It's not clear that cooling is necessary with leopard geckos, but in any case, the cooling time of year is usually done in Nov-Dec and it's over now. In answer to your original question, you can either introduce the male to the female and then separate them once you think breeding has occurred, or you can leave them together. I leave mine together during breeding season. If the male pesters the female endlessly to mate, you may have to separate them to give her a little peace. Is it possible that the female is on the cool side because the male bothers her whenever she goes to the warm side? Try to observe them and see how they do together.
