Lay eggs in tank or in container?

Hi- I'm a noob and have a male levis (still locating a female for him!) - I was wondering if most folks provide a secondary container in their tanks for egg laying ( I'm asking because I know some leopard people that do this) IF so, what type of container and what type of substrate mix is in it?

I have my female bearded dragon taken out once a day when she gets "antsy" and put her in a pile of potting soil in the back yard for her to lay eggs. I guess my point is I would hate to miss the eggs being layed and have them go bad (when I get a female! )
