SEOMTIMES they lay their eggs outside the lay box when the eggs arent fertile nowever that is not always true. so females just do it. make sure your laying box have good medium and not too wet or dry.

I have one that laid most of her eggs (all fertile, good laybox which her cagemate used exclusively) outside the box. Here are some things that may help:

--when she's showing signs that she's going to lay soon, keep putting her in the box. Maybe she'll get the idea

--depending on your level of business and schedule, keep a close eye on her and you may be able to find the eggs right after she lays them. I got 2 clutches that way from this recalcitrant female. One of those eggs just hatched last night.

--put her in a separate cage that is all lay box: put a few inches of coco fiber in a 5 gallon tank and put her in there so no matter where she lays there's moist dirt to bury the eggs in.

Good luck,

Aliza

She always lays infertile eggs outside the box.Is it possible she knows they are infertile so she lays outside the box??

Some of them seem to know and do lay the infertile ones outside. If that's the case, you wouldn't want to do anything anyway, because who wants to incubate infertile eggs. If the eggs are bad because they dry up where they have been laid, that's another matter entirely and then you would need to figure out what to do to get her to lay in the box.

Some just are stubborn and do this , regardless of fertility. I have had to keep a close eye on one of my tangs. know that she is gravid and approximately when she is going to lay. then I will take her and put her in a hatchling container full of lay medium for a couple days tell she lays . that way she has no choice to lay in a safe place. and the eggs stay viable.
