Laying outside of the lay box

I had a few females today lay outside the lay box. This seems to be a continuing problem with some of them. Luckily I got there in time today, but I have had raisins other days. But what my question is. Is can you “train” females to lay inside the lay box, or are they just going to lay wherever they want?

Thanks in advance

I am having that problem this year with experienced females. Sometimes females lay outside the lay box because the eggs are infertile, but mine are laying fertile eggs in the poop area. Here is what I"m trying and they are my only suggestions:

a. Make sure the substrate in the lay box is at optimal dampness and humidity

b. when it seems as if the female is getting ready to lay (within a day or so), keep putting her in the lay box and maybe she'll get the idea.

I have a female that started doing this last year and has continued to do this so when ever her due day comes around I put her in a lay container. A hatchling tub filled with laybox medium, so she has no choice but to lay them in the right place. getting them trained is difficult at best . they are going to lay were ever they wont when it comes time . so best bet is not to risk the eggs turning into raisins and have a lay container.

'Most' of the time when they outside the lay box it is one of two reasons:
1) They are infertile eggs
2) Lay box not moist enough
Key word.....most.....sometimes they just like being a pain!!

I don't no about training but one of my females layed her eggs on top of the humid hide, the last clutch this year she layed in her humid hide :)
