Are LED Lights ok to use in my Gecko's tank?
I want something that won't produce heat and that the gecko can't see.

I’d just use a fluorescent tube that produces red or black light.
Can an LED light be used though.
Does it produce heat and can the gecko see it?

I wouldn’t think an LED light would harm them, any more than they would harm you or me. I believe that they do use them for aquariums.

I don’t know if they produce heat or not, but would assume they do not. If the geckos see the light or not depends on the spectrum of light produced by the bulb, certain colors such as red, blue, and black cannot be seen by geckos, as far as I know. I might be wrong on blue, though.

Thanks Halley :)

Yeah the ones I've seen are for aquariums and thats what I wanted to use.
Either the red or green one.

i bet a red led would be good, geckos cant see red light and the led's with be much cooler than a bulb. i would prolly order the leds tho radioshack charges like $3 a peice

want you need the red light LED ude for the night or day?
for the night, i think it will be ok! ( how hondawingsfly said, geckos cant see the red light)

but for the day, i think it will not be enough, cause the geckos need light for the day-night-rythm!

correct me, when iam false!!!

shico, I thought they needed no form of daylight. in fact they'd prefer not to have it because there eyes are sensitive. That natural lighting is just fine

Personally I would put the red LED lights on a timer, so they turn on and off when you would like. Then as long as the room they are in gets some decent amount of sunlight you should be more than fine!

Shico - I don't have a light for daytime, natural light is enough. Gecko's don't need a light but
I just wanted something so I could see them abit easier at night time plus it would look nice.
Think I will probably get the red one.

Thanks for all the replies ;)

I have been using LED aquarium accent lights for all my tanks.
They are great. They produce no heat, my leos dont even seem to notice them, and they provide the perfect lighting so you can see your leos at night.

Most pet stores sell them (in the fish dept).

Thanks nats.
I got a red and white one today.
Glad that you use them and they are fine.
Will probaby use the white one as a day light as its quite bright and the red one as a night light as geckos can't see red light.

I have a red one on one end, and a blue one on the other.
So it's purple in the middle! :D
None of my leos even notice it, and they can be starring straight at it!!
