man today i took one of my baby leo geckos to the vet. i was pretty sure it had m.b.d because i noticed that one of its legs looked almost broken (like it was not useing it propperly). so i took it to the vet as i mentioned before and the vet as soon as he saw my gecko he said that there is not going to be much that they can do, because it is so small. they told me that they cant put screws into bones that are smaller then tooth picks. the only thing they did was put a piece of tape around its leg and they also gave me some calcium with D3 which i already had. and they let me take it home.

my gecko is probbaly only 2 1/2 months old was taping its leg the right thing to do. and the thing that bothers me is that this was a small vet clinic and im pretty sure they dont see very many reptiles. and basicly i just want to know was it selfish of me to keep this gecko and not put it down on the spot. has anyone else had a problem like this. what else can i do. its not like there are any specific reptile vets in my area.

i know this is a stupid question but has any one ever had to cull there gecko. how did u guys do it.

The vet was correct in taping the leg, maybe he thought it was a break? Young Leopard Geckos are very resilient so you should be ok as long as it gets enough calcium. You need to call the vet back and ask about Neo-Calglucon (generic version is Calcionate Syrup) aka liquid calcium. MBD can't be reversed completely but it can be stopped and the bones can be strengthened. Don't lose hope! He have 2 adopted babies with bowed legs that we've been treating with liquid calcium. They're doing great! The good news is that with growing geckos, if they're getting extra calcium, they're legs will grow straighter than if you were treating an old gecko.
