Leopard Geck Tank Size

High I have two leopard geckos in a 20g tank which is 24" by 12". One has started to not get along with the other. Another tank is out of the question. If i divided the tank down the middle separating them both in their own 12" by 12" enclosure would this be suitable? I would place the heat mat in the middle giving both side half the heat. They ofcourse would both have their own everything; water dish, calcium dish, moist hide, cool side hide, warm side hide e.t.c. Now 12 by 12 seems a bit small so i have an idea of creating a second level using slate safely secured on stable upturned pots. which could possibly give another 12" by say 6" floor area.

What do you think?

In my opinion thats not ideal and really seems cramped! I have a leo in a 10gallon (20x12) and it seems so Tiny.

Why is another tank out of the question?

You could buy a sterilite tub with some heat tape. Cheap and effective.

Another tank is a no because I am 14 with little money, 'no more tanks' parents and a small bedroom cramped with 5 fish and gecko tanks.

Do you think it would be ok temporarily if the situation gets any worse (at the moment the two keep to there own) Until I can find a buyer.

IMO, safety is more important than veiwabilty. Especially if you are going to sell one anyways. What you are currently doing is risking a fight between the geckos and possibly death for atleast one of them. Honestly, if you dont have alot of money, and werent prepaired to seperate them if something like this were to happen, you really shouldnt have had two in the first place... the price of slate and flower pots is going to be pretty darn close to the price of another tank... even a 10g would be better than what you have now, and they are what? like 9 bucks or something? I would imagine you could find room for a 10g somewhere... maybe consider selling the 20g and getting two tens? if you use a 10g for each, I would reccomend maybe making a second level in that too, to maximise usable floor space.

I am in the U.K i search for new second hand tanks daily to no avail a brand new 15g would set me back £30-£50, second hand if i can ever find one i'm still looking at around £25. and no i would be able to get the slate and whatnot for free. Also another heat mat would be £15. I originally bought three due too bad advice 1 did not get on straight away and I had the money too be able to separate him/her to a separate suitable tank. SO yes i was prepared for mis-hap but not three months in ok?

Since you're thinking of dividing the tank and making a second level on each side, why don't you try making a second level for the tank as it is first? You could do one with 4 dowels and a 12"x12" tile. If you use 2 tiles, one on top of the other (with 4 small tiles at the corners to keep them from touching each other) you could put a mini sized UTH in between the tiles and the upper layer will be heated. It may be that with more space and more hide options the geckos will do OK together. No guarantee, though. The cost should be minimal for the second level and just a bit more for the UTH. If you can't afford UTH right now, you could probably use a light to heat for awhile.
