Hello guys and gals :D
Well, I have to make a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation for one of my culminatings in my computers course...So obviously, I chose to do it on leopard geckos, seeing as I know a decent amount of stuff already. So I was wonderin what I could talk about to a bunch of grade 9's (yes im in grade 9 in case you were wonderin). I've got some ideas already, but im gunna need more to fill up that 10 minute slot, and I was lookin for some good ideas that would be interesting and not TOO boring lol.
Thanks :main_thumbsup:

Talk about raising feeders....I could go on for days about that ;) Kinda directly related....

You could try and make genetics interesting. Show some pics like "this and this make that". Don't get into morphs or anything, they won't retain that information so it will be irrelevant.

To go along with the whole breeding discussion, you could talk about reproduction and egg fertility...where and how you incubate fertile eggs, how often they lay and how long it takes for the eggs to hatch. Mention that leopard geckos are temperature sexed and explain what that means.

You can talk about the major type of metabolic bone disease, Nutritional Secondary Hypoparathyroidism

Show lots of pictures...show what a "basic" leopard gecko setup should look like and maybe label everything in the pic

You can talk about the different kinds of parasites, look up pictures and show them. Some examples include pinworms or coccidia.

Good luck! I'd love to see the presentation when it's finished!

GREAT ideas! That helps alot, Thanks! I have to do this presentation in french, so unless you know french the presentation might make no sense lol.

talk about the scientific name and it's literal translation. Eublepharis means true eyelids in Greek maculariustranslates to bumpy skin in Latin :main_thumbsup: I do all my Latin projects on scientific names.

alright, so, so far these are my points:
- Pairings (this x that = this)
- Differences as they age
- Reproduction
- Incubation (temps, longer/shorter incubation times, temp sexed, don’t turn them over etc)
- Parasites
- Eublepharis Macularius (true eyelids, bumpy skin)
- Natural habitat
- Diet
- Appearances (length/weight/colorations)
- Tail = fat reservoir
- wild vs captivity
- Difference between male/female
- Aggressiveness
- Claws as apposed to toes/pads

Anything I should add/ take away? All comments are welcome :)

With only 10 minutes, you should limit your presentation to ONLY 10 slides. Spend about 1 minute per slide, use lots of pictures, and use bulleted points. I use powerpoint presentation for virtually all my professional, scientific presentations (I'm a PhD candidate in Forest Resources, which is basically a wildlife biology degree, so I've been doing this a while).

Here's how I would break down the presentation (by slide number):

1. Introduction: Have a native range map of the leopard gecko. HERE is a range map, although I'm not sure how accurate it is. I would discuss where the leopard geckos are from, and say we don't know much about them in their native range. I'd also briefly discuss leopard gecko taxonomy. HERE is an article I wrote last year for Gecko Time.

2. Discuss why leopard geckos are important and interesting. I'd give general pointers about being phenotypically variable (ie. have a lot of genetic morphs). In my reptile presentations, I call leopard geckos the koi of the reptile world.

3. Discuss general care of captive leopard geckos. Show pictures of racks and naturalistic vivaria. Discuss pros/cons of each.

4-7. Discuss the 1, 2, 3s of breeding, genetics, temperature sex determination, incubation time, how may eggs/clutches

8-9. Discuss issues with captivity, such as diseases, genetic flaws (ie. enigma circling, kinked tails, dwarfism)

10. Conclusion/summary slide

11. Questions? (with cute picture)

Thanks a lot Vanessa. My teacher wants us to have 20-25 slides, which shows the knowledge of how to use transitions and stuff. She also doesn't want more than about 15 words per slide because she doesn't want us using the PP as a reading document...I do totally agree with you, but i have to go by my teachers guidelines even if they are a bit weird....
Thanks for the layout though, that really helps!
