Hello, I have had this gecko for almost 10 years and I have never heard him do this before. I walked in my room and heard this screaming noise. So I went and grabbed my phone and took this video to show you guys.

Any idea what this is?

Thanks for the help.

It looks like it is a scared scream...similar to hatchlings. If you have had it that long and it never has done that before it may be a sign that it has medical issues developing.

He didn't react until that noise that sounded like rustling. then that scared the bejeebus outta him. Then you touching him seemed like system overload on an already stressed leo (ya both jumped :) ). I also agree tho if this is completely out of the norm and everything has been consistant in his habitat etc. for a long time, it could be medical and worth a vet visit if it continues to happen. I always tell my dog clients you have to rule out all the medical before you can truly say it is a behavioral reaction. He was walking really slow and cautious. I Notice he can see a lot of his reflection in the glass and was kinda stalking it after his first freak out... have you ever noticed that outta him before?

Maybe he's just having a bad day :main_rolleyes::D:main_laugh:

He's probably thinking, man, now I've been in that cage for 10 long years and am still a virgin... I want a harem :main_lipsrsealed:

Actually, he just looked spooked. I have a few adults who do this occasionally when I pick them up to get photographed. Otherwise, normally just the hatchlings scream and hiss like that; the adults more or less chirp. He doesn't look sick; he's probably just angry.

Thanks for all the replies. Ok to answer some of the questions. He has been in that cage his entire life, so I don't think it was the reflection. The only reason I started filming is because I heard this scream before I ever bothered him. He was in his hide box (not in the video, because I took it out) screaming, so I don't think it was anything I did to make him do that. He was actually at the vet about 3 months ago because his tail was getting skinny and he had some eye issues. The vet gave me some drops and he has since started eating again and gain his tail back. I am hoping he is just "angry" like someone mentioned. Thanks for all the help with this.

Could he be constipated and irritable? His tail looks proportionate to his body but if he isn't pooping regularly he will get increasingly uncomfortable. Good looking boy btw :)

Thanks.. :)

Umm, I'm pretty sure he pooped about a week ago. So I don't think he is constipated, but I will watch him closely to see what happens.

How often do you feed him? Pooing once a week seems kinds sparce to me. I feed Eros 3x a week and he poos at least 2-3x a week as well.

He is definitely scared in this video. I would give him some time before going to the vet. He may just be having a bad day. I wouldn't handle him for awhile, too.

I pretty much agree with everything everyone else said. All could be possible. You said he was at the vet over an eye issue? What kinda of issues. If he has some kind of vision failure it could be scaring and stressing him out as well. A friend of mine had one for about 8 years that started going blind due to a bad shed and eye infection and after that you could not handle her as much and had to be careful not to make sudden movements and/or loud noises. Perhaps something like that could be going on with your little guy and its scary him to death?

Wow he sure looks/sounds upset about something.

Honestly, the first thing that came into my mind when I heard him was that he was trying to be a little dinosaur!

Kidding aside though, I hope everything works out.

IMO...sounds like a gecko that has not been held much.
Scared, non trusting squeal.
Mine do that before they know me.
Take care. HJ

I guess I usually feed him 3-4 times a week(superworms). He could have went more than just week, that is just the last time I noticed it.

Yeah, I won't bother him for a while, I will just feed him and not handle him.

Well, I guess the eye issue could be something. I notice that he doesn't see as good as he use to. His eyes look 100% better then they did before I took him to the vet. As far as the holding goes, over the 10 years I have had him, I don't hold him a lot because I read it wasn't good and it stressed them out. But over that time I have taken him out of his cage and held him and/or let him lay with me many, many times.
