Leopard Gecko Turning Darker?

My female is turning darker. I thought it could be the heat, but I'm just using a small lamp, since it's getting warmer out. She also has little bits of skin coming off, like she's going to shed in a couple of weeks. Do geckos turn dark, white, then shed?

They don't necessarily turn darker before they shed, but I guess they can. Leos sometimes turn dark if they are on a dark substrate, sometimes depending on mood, or for no good reason. Some of my tangs change a lot from day to day.

I agree with Aliza. Different stresses can make them change as well. We have some that lighten up with ovulation, then darken back up when they are done.

My male goes darker, almost to a bronze color, when he is hiding a lot. When we get him out in the light he normally brightens up.

My female doesn't turn darker, but her black spots turn gray & she starts to look opaque. She looks like a total different gecko once she sheds.

yeah ive noticed that on my MS, i do not know why it happens but it does, the whiter parts on her turn more of a grey color rather than a white.
